Solange Knowles Reveals Houston Concerts at the ‘Eldorado Ballroom’

Solange Knowles and her curatorial initiative, Saint Heron, will bring the renowned Eldorado Ballroom to her hometown of Houston this June, in collaboration with Performing Arts Houston.

The Eldorado Ballroom will feature six programs held at notable venues, including Jones Hall, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the original historic Eldorado Ballroom.

Each evening will present a unique experience that merges history with modernity through performances honoring artistic trailblazers while showcasing the creativity of contemporary artists. Attendees can look forward to performances by Solange herself, alongside Dallas singer-songwriter and producer Liv.e, folk artist Kara Jackson, Gospel legend Twinkie Clark and The Clark Sisters, as well as choral and piano pieces by Mary Lou Williams, performed by Artina McCain and a choir led by Malcom Merriweather, Angélla Christie, Dominique Johnson, and more.

Solange, who hails from Houston, and her artist collective, Saint Heron, debuted the Eldorado Ballroom at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in 2023. Following that, Knowles has transformed the series, including three additional sold-out shows and a segment of Houston’s Third Ward at Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, scheduled for October 2024. Now, Solange and Saint Heron are enhancing her vision with a homecoming for the Eldorado Ballroom in Houston.

Each event will emphasize a different musical theme and lineup of performers. Highlights include a tribute to Black female classical composers and orchestral music, dynamic gatherings of spiritual and gospel music, evenings at the Eldorado Ballroom focusing on contemporary music and performance art, a night dedicated to the origins of Black folk and zydeco music, and a celebration of Houston's musical heritage through a futuristic perspective, emphasizing the lasting impact of chopped and screwed and the innovative musical contributions from the Nigerian and broader African communities in our city.

In addition to live performances, the series will feature two free screenings of Saint Heron's film *Monuments Are Here*, spotlighting Parliament Funkadelic singer Gene “Shady The Great” Thomas, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

“We are excited to partner with Solange and Saint Heron to bring her vision to life in her hometown,” states Performing Arts Houston President & CEO Meg Booth. “Collaborating with Solange, Saint Heron, and Project Row Houses to honor the Eldorado's legacy of inspiring Black creativity and community through such remarkable artists is a tremendous privilege.”

Performing Arts Houston, in partnership with Eldorado Ballroom owner and operator Project Row Houses, will share further details in the coming weeks.

“We are thrilled about Solange Knowles’ return to Third Ward and the Eldorado Ballroom at Project Row Houses,” says Project Row Houses Executive Director Danielle Burns Wilson. “She is deeply connected to this building’s history—her creative spirit has echoed in the ballroom since *A Seat at the Table*. Now, she will return to strengthen that bond and invigorate the energy in this historic venue.”
