What I admire about country artist Laci Kaye Booth is her focus on writing for women and girls. Her songwriting perspective is rooted in the female experience, providing the authenticity and vulnerability that is often overlooked in country music. With nearly a decade of experience as a country artist and songwriter, Booth brings a freshness and individuality to her music that the genre has been missing for years. Currently, there is no one else making music quite like hers.
Booth began teasing her new song “George F****** Strait” (released on June 6 via Geffen Records) on social media in April. The track delves into strength with its bold lyrics and electrifying guitars. It follows Booth's previously released single “Daddy’s Mugshot,” which reflects her father's influence and conveys a gritty narrative, reminiscent of a western shot in dark hues but infused with a sense of humor.
"My very first concert was George Strait, sitting in the nosebleed seats at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I've known most of his songs by heart since childhood. This song expresses admiration and love for a cowboy as he ages, with George Strait as the prime example of the King of Country music, the Troubadour himself.”

Booth's vocals dominate the track, taking listeners on an exploration of yearning for a man who might be deemed unsuitable. This new musical path brings an edge and a sense of risk. Her lyrics are sparse yet carefully chosen. On her debut album, The Loneliest Girl in the World, Booth crafted a detailed landscape filled with characters, memories, and subtleties. “George F****** Strait” is centered on taking you to places that might make your mother blush.
Boy, they still make ‘em
Just like they used to
He has the manners
Of a Southern Baptist saint
He has a wrench
I’ve got a screw loose
He’s got me kicking
Right out of the starting gate
When I spoke with Booth in April, she shared, “I’ve had the title ‘George F****** Strait’ saved in my notes app for quite a while. I waited until it just came out naturally while I was writing with Anderson East and Melissa Fuller. It seemed destined to be, as I wouldn’t want to hear the title any other way now. It’s definitely a departure from what I’ve done before.”

Produced by Ben West and Anderson East, and co-written by Booth, East, and Fuller, “George F****** Strait” is delivered from the viewpoint of a woman completely at ease with her sexuality. She exudes confidence and isn’t afraid to express her desires.
Come by it honestly
How I choose ‘em
It's in my roots
That I want ‘em in boots
Tie me up
I have an issue
And I know exactly what kind of
Lasso he can use
“George F****** Strait” embodies raw feeling. Its wild, almost instinctual nature, the driving tempo, and the wailing guitars in the bridge blend with Booth’s unparalleled vocal “aaahhs,” reaching a peak before crashing back to the chorus. Ultimately, the song speaks to desire.
Lord, if I can’t have ‘em
I’ll get down on my knees and pray
God, give me a man who only gets better with age
I’ve loved many cowboys in my Daddy-issue phase
God, give me a man who only gets better with age
