It's widely recognized that finding a new favorite artist can bring a great deal of joy. Whether it’s from catching them live at a local concert or exploring playlists online, there are numerous ways to discover musical gems. However, sometimes an extra push can be beneficial. To celebrate the art of uncovering new music (while simplistically and efficiently aiding the process), we’ve joined forces with Musosoup, a platform dedicated to illuminating lesser-known acts in the music scene in a more affordable and straightforward way for everyone. Back in May, we shared our first selection of choices from the platform, and now we’re presenting some of their more recent releases that we find intriguing. Check them out below!
TYGERMYLK - The Deverills
Summer is the perfect time for adventures with friends, and if there’s a song that serves as an ideal soundtrack for the warm nights of the season, it’s this latest tune from TYGERMYLK. Filled with nostalgic nods to shared memories and blunders (“We took the wrong boat / In the wrong direction…”), ‘The Deverills’ - featuring Laura Reznek - is a refreshing delight that reflects on the passage of time, reminding us to cherish our loved ones even more.
Moon Construction Kit - Long John Silver
Though Moon Construction Kit is a one-man project from Olivier Cornu, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, you wouldn’t know it from the complex, layered sounds of the recent track 'Long John Silver'. This hazy, glitchy piece evokes the same intense, psych-infused emotions that Tame Impala and POND are known for, and it consistently offers surprise.
Modern Guilt - You Know Who You Are
Starting with the iconic audio from A Few Good Men ("You can't handle the truth!") is a daring choice by Modern Guilt for their latest single 'You Know Who You Are'. Thankfully, the track - a self-described "ode to dishonesty" - more than lives up to its bold beginning, featuring Strokes-like guitars and an infectious rhythm. "Doesn't make it honest just because you're loud,” declares frontman Jaz, with a demeanor that sits comfortably between Alex Turner and Julian Casablancas. When the band mentioned the track is "one for the liars," they were being serious.
Undead Living - Dirty Persuasion
Although the name Undead Living might evoke thoughts of The Last Of Us rather than a new favorite post-punk duo, fear not, there’s an undeniable appeal in the dark-toned creations of this Texan duo. Their latest release, ‘Dirty Persuasion’, is a melodic yet shadowy piece that’s sure to linger in your thoughts.
Maryse Smith - Freedom
Taken from Massachusetts songwriter Maryse Smith's newly-released album ‘Transience’, the opening track 'Freedom' embodies all the warm, beautiful qualities of a folk-rock classic, landing between Patti Smith and Laura Marling. With its intimate and organic sound, it will make you want to grab an acoustic guitar in the setting sun.
