      :: “Die Happy” – Holly Humberstone ::

      Julia Dzurillay, New Jersey

      With her gritty voice, natural hair, and heartbreakingly personal lyrics, Holly Humberstone has established a distinctive singer-songwriter aesthetic since her music debut—making this new period particularly exciting. This month, she unveiled “Die Happy,” a single exploring the deepest and most perilous form of love.

      “You said in a past life we were spiders,

      or something neo-goth and grandiose.

      You asked if you could hold my hand forever and ever,

      You asked me if I still believe in ghosts, well.”

      – “Die Happy,” Holly Humberstone

      I can't overlook the Notes on a Conditional Form-like introduction. It sets the stage for a dreamy, dark, and romantic track, with clear nods to gothic romance within the slow pop original. Humberstone has even admitted to drawing inspiration from The Bloody Chamber and Dracula. She mentioned in a press release, “I aimed to convey the feeling of diving headfirst into love, completely and recklessly.”

      :: “apartment” – Kareen Lomax ::

      Mitch Mosk, Beacon, New York

      Kareen Lomax’s “apartment” holds a simmering intensity—a consistent, low hum swaying between yearning and release. The alt-R&B artist shines against Daoud’s lush production, her golden, honey-infused vocals enveloping every note like velvet. It's soulful and passionate, radiating intimacy and longing; a song that feels personal, like a shared whisper during the quiet hours between heartbreak and recovery.

      Released on November 7 through music is fun, “apartment” is nostalgia in motion—a groove that looks back while advancing. Lomax retraces her journey through love and loss, revisiting past walls and echoes of her former self. “Drove past my old apartment / the one with the high rent / where we used to turn up all night long,” she sings, laden with warmth and nostalgia. The beat flows like memory: soft edges, tender yet vibrant.

      Lomax’s stunning voice—rich, radiant, and raw—is a beacon of pure, unrestrained emotion. She sings closely to the mic, sending chills down spines as the hairs on our necks rise. Each note feels purposeful yet effortless, revealing both ache and allure, drawing you in until her breath seems almost palpable in the space.

      Lomax articulates, “'apartment' defines my new era's groove—nostalgic yet still moving. It reflects a place that exists solely in your heart, where four walls expand when you’re in love and close in when you’re lost. I wrote this while caught between grief and freedom, packing my parents’ home after my father passed and reminiscing the city I once dreamed of. It’s the last place I recall feeling like my true self.”

      This duality—grief and freedom, movement and memory—serves as the pulse of “apartment.” Lomax has always crafted music for those seeking their way back to themselves, and here she does so with breathtaking openness. In reflecting on her past, she reclaims her identity—not enslaved to her history, but anchored by it.

      :: In Your Face! – Pacifica ::

      Josh Weiner, Washington DC

      Inés Adam and Martina Nintzel, originally from Argentina, now call Los Angeles home. Longtime friends, they decided to transform their friendship into a creative collaboration, with Martina on bass and Inés wielding the mic and guitar. This partnership has birthed several projects, including Not a Cover Band (2022) and Freak Show (2023), and now they return with their most ambitious work yet, In Your Face!

      The album boasts thirteen vibrant and engaging tracks. Among the standout is the lead single “Indie Boyz,” which started as a playful tune inspired by a week of partying but gradually morphed into “one of the truest songs we've written. It’s about craving to feel alive even while knowing you’re making a mess.” Other tracks capture the duo’s escapades with boys, parties, and risk-taking over infectious pop-rock rhythms (“Don’t
