      :: EUSEXUA – FKA twigs ::

      Julia Dzurillay, New Jersey

      Even before February, fans of FKA twigs are declaring her latest project as the Album of the Year. Known for her experimental and techno-infused tracks, Eusexua – a term coined to express transcendent feelings of euphoria and clarity – explores unusual beats to create a sound that feels cohesive yet distinctly different from her previous work. One standout is the second track, “Girl Feels Good,” which perfectly captures the energy of a night out in a lively club setting. Here, Twigs reflects, “I fear the man who finds himself lost / In tales of war, delusions of more / Beautiful boys, I wish you knew how precious you are / Your mother’s, sister’s, lover’s heart is where there’s healing.”

      :: Burnout Days – Flipturn ::

      Christine Buckley, Connecticut

      Florida indie-rock group flipturn gained recognition with their 2022 debut album Shadowglow, captivating audiences at U.S. festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Governor’s Ball. However, the pressures of touring took a toll on the band. This led to their sophomore album, Burnout Days, which retains their signature crystalline guitar riffs and catchy hooks while incorporating New Wave influences and intricate percussion for an energetic sound. The album has a grittier and more vulnerable feel than its predecessor, but brings a sense of positivity, especially evident in the single "Sunlight," which touches on frontman Dillon Basse’s support for his mother’s sobriety journey. Recently, they made their late-night television debut with “Rodeo Clown” on Jimmy Kimmel, and they are set to embark on a major three-month U.S. tour.

      :: “Sports car” – Tate McRae ::

      Bárbara Martínez Campuzano, Mexico

      Tate McRae's new track “Sports car” exudes excitement and energy, offering an instant hit full of adrenaline. Produced by Ryan Tedder and Grant, it marks the highly anticipated return of the Canadian singer and is set to appear on her upcoming album, So Close to What, releasing on February 21. The song metaphorically expresses the exhilaration of love through the imagery of a sports car. Accompanying the single is a visually stunning music video directed by Bardia Zeinali, praised for its fashion and visuals, giving a deeper glimpse into McRae’s world.

      :: “Cry for Me” – Magdalena Bay ::

      Marc Maleri, Connecticut

      Since the release of their sophomore album, Imaginal Disk, I often find myself captivated by a specific track for weeks. Every song on the album is richly layered and nuanced in both lyrics and production, making it rewarding to revisit them. “Cry for Me” is particularly compelling, as lead vocalist Mica Tenenbaum adopts the role of a villain, seeking sympathy in their dramatic narrative. The track features a mix of strings and synths, crafting a tragically beautiful sound.

      :: Bambino – Hudson Thames ::

      Chloe Robinson, California

      Singer-songwriter Hudson Thames captivates with his soulful and soothing style in his new album Bambino. The eight-track collection opens with “Cold Summer,” which juxtaposes its title with lyrics about heartbreak. Another highlight is “Wrong,” featuring poignant vocals and piano harmonies. The album closes with “Man of the World,” rounding out its themes of self-discovery amidst uncertainty. Thames, who will appear as Peter Parker in the upcoming Marvel series, derived the album title from a term of endearment used in his family during gatherings.

      :: “Endeavours” – Laura Reznek ::

      Mitch Mosk, Beacon, New York

      Laura Reznek's “Endeavours” presents a moving exploration of heartache and reflection. While the song centers on a lost love, it conveys warmth and tenderness, embodying a ‘don’t look back in anger’ sentiment. Known for her poetic lyricism, Reznek intimately reflects on her past relationships, allowing moments of love to exist alongside pain. This track serves as an acceptance of a
