James Krivchenia, the drummer of Big Thief, is set to release a new album via the iconic UK electronic label Planet Mu.
As an integral member of the influential American indie-folk band, James Krivchenia has consistently engaged in various side projects. His solo work is quite different from his primary role; while a strong passion for rhythm remains, the exploratory electronics occupy a distinct space.
The upcoming album, titled ‘Performing Belief,’ will be released on May 2nd through the UK label Planet Mu.
The record, which weaves together ideas infused with synths, drum machines, and other samples, was developed with contributions from electric bassist and fellow Los Angeles resident Sam Wilkes (Wilkes/Gendel) and double bassist/multi-instrumentalist Joshua Abrams from Krivchenia’s hometown of Chicago (Natural Information Society).
Available for pre-order now, ‘Probably Wizards’ showcases James Krivchenia’s ability to combine sharp percussive elements with a flexible bassline, causing the track to seem like it expands and contracts in surprising ways.
Tune in now.
