Fontaines DC are back with the release of their new single “It’s Amazing To Be Young,” just two days after teasing the announcement on their social media channels. The prolific Dublin band, who were once featured on the cover of DIY, released their fourth album "Romance" last summer and spent the remainder of 2024 touring and performing at festivals, solidifying their reputation as the year's top live act. They are now ensuring that this recognition carries through into 2025 as well: similar to the track “Favourite” from "Romance," "It’s Amazing To Be Young" serves as a poignant, nostalgia-inducing anthem that evokes images of festival crowds, blending the essence of ’80s indie legends like The Cure and The Smiths into a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly Fontaines.
"'It’s Amazing To Be Young' was written in the presence of a newborn child - Carlos’ child,” the band explained during the YouTube premiere of the song’s music video. “At that time, it resembled more of a lullaby or a music box, but with the same lyrics: ‘it’s amazing to be young.’ The hope that a child can inspire is both profound and emotional, especially for young men like us. It embodies the desire to create a happy world for them to grow up in. It’s a sentiment that counters the cynicism that often surrounds us in today’s world. We wanted to express where we stand – it truly is amazing to be young.
We remain free and wish to spread that feeling. Our intent is to protect that joy for those around us, and perhaps in doing so, we can also safeguard it for ourselves.” “It’s Amazing To Be Young” is set to be released on limited edition 7" vinyl on April 18, 2025, along with another new track titled “Before You I Just Forget.” You can purchase a copy of our August 2024 magazine featuring Fontaines on the cover here, and watch the official video for “It’s Amazing To Be Young”—a touching short film depicting modern star-crossed lovers, starring actor Ewan Mitchell—below.
