Eighteen months after the release of their third album, musical polymath yeule has announced their latest project. The artist, also known as Nat Ćmiel, will launch their fourth album titled ‘Evangelic Girl is a Gun’ on May 30 through Ninja Tune. They describe this project as one in which they “grapple with ideas of a self-destructive identity burning through the canvas of post-modernity.” This ten-track album follows 2023’s ‘softscars’ and features a collaboration with artist Vasso Vu for a series of “still visual artworks,” while Ćmiel delves into their role as the “painter”: “I wanted to pay tribute to my life as a painter with this album,” Ćmiel says, citing Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński as their inspiration. “For me, Beksiński beautifully captures, with great care, the entities that inhabit his dystopian, serene landscapes. The essence of painting as a medium reflects my emotions, both harsh and tender. It’s a fleeting moment in my life, transcribed with paint and preserved in time.” The upcoming album also boasts a stellar lineup of producers and collaborators, including A.G. Cook, Chris Greatti, Mura Masa, Clams Casino, Fitnesss, and Kin Leonn. In addition to the announcement of the new album, yeule has shared a preview in the form of ‘Skullcrusher’—the album’s closing track—which starts off dark and gradually evolves into a noisy crescendo.
