Kara-Lis Coverdale Unveils Upcoming Album 'From Where You Came'

Kara-Lis Coverdale has unveiled her forthcoming album titled ‘From Where You Came’.

This album marks the composer's first release in eight years, adding significant depth to her already special discography. Coverdale showcases her ability to navigate both analogue and digital domains, with the new album traversing 19th-century programmatic music and mid-70s jazz, all tied together by her distinctive and vibrant aesthetic.

The music was composed and recorded across multiple continents, including sessions at the GRM Studio in Paris and the Elektronmusikstudion EMS in Stockholm. Ultimately, however, ‘From Where You Came’ was finalized in rural Ontario, Canada.

With the wintry imagery on the cover and the icy tones throughout, an atmosphere of mid-winter reflection permeates Coverdale's work.

The album is set to be released on May 9th through Smalltown Supersound and features contributions from cross-disciplinary sound artist and cellist Anne Bourne, along with GRAMMY-winning trombone virtuoso Kalia Vandever.

The compositions range from murky electronics to airy woodwind sounds, as the composer reveals the humanity within distinctly unwelcoming soundscapes. “Anything can have a voice,” Coverdale states. “For me, voice is beyond human.”

The new track ‘Daze’ is available now – thoughtful and reflective, it serves as a compelling introduction to the album as a whole.
