Scottish songwriter Kathryn Joseph is set to release her new album, ‘WE WERE MADE PREY,’ on May 30th.
The acclaimed artist garnered significant critical praise in 2022 for her deeply moving and evocative album, ‘For You Who Are the Wronged.’ She collaborates once again with Lomond Campbell for this new LP, which will be issued through Rock Action this year.
Scheduled for release on May 30th, ‘WE WERE MADE PREY.’ showcases Kathryn's purposeful approach. In a statement, she shares: “I feel a sense of certainty with this album. It’s angrier and more powerful. When writing these songs, I felt the need to release something, but naturally, when you lose something, you begin to want it back. That’s essentially what this record encapsulates. It’s about seeking the truth and creating quite a mess along the way, with a lot of blood on the table.”
Created at Black Bay Studios on the Isle of Lewis last year, the music reflects a certain type of anger.
“What you hear on the record isn’t how I originally perceived it,” she notes. “The songs had anger, but it was subtle. When Lomond added all this beautiful noise, suddenly they transformed into a much larger, exciting anger, filled with longing. Everything he contributed was perfect. I feel incredibly fortunate.”
The album, which is available for pre-order now, is led by the new track ‘HARBOUR,’ which she considers one of her favorites.
“There’s a coldness to it,” she explains. “It evokes the same feeling for me as metal, like bridges and wind turbines. I want to lick it. I want to experience it physically.”
