South London artist Venna re-emerges with his new single, ‘Prophet’.
A reflective prayer, ‘Prophet’ is an expansive composition that focuses on spiritual awakening set against stunning landscapes and distant places. The track is entirely self-produced, featuring Venna’s vocals and his skilled alto saxophone playing. His careful direction leads contributions from Yussef Dayes on drums, Marco Bernardis on piano and tenor saxophone, AoD on guitar, Rocco Palladino on bass, and Alexander Bourt on percussion.
Regarding this precursor to a forthcoming album, Venna states: “Prophet was the initial track created during the development of my next project. This song encapsulates many of my thoughts and feelings from that period. I aim to create art that endures, which necessitates extensive studying and traveling for it to manifest. Being mindful of what I listen to is crucial for me in producing the art I want. Prophet demonstrated to me that there are no boundaries to where I can take this album.”
Venna honed his skills on earlier projects ‘Equinox’ (2023) and ‘Venology’ (2021). His new phase signals a work that explores beyond his jazz roots, inviting listeners to perceive each release as a distinct piece with its own genre influences. A video for ‘Prophet’, directed by Aymane Alhamid, will premiere later today. In the meantime, you can listen to the single below.
