Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas has announced a new album titled 'Boleros Psicodélicos II'.
In 2022, he released his solo album 'Boleros Psicodélicos,' which paid tribute to Latin American pop from the late 60s and early 70s. This passion project resonated particularly well with diasporic communities.
The upcoming album 'Boleros Psicodélicos II' expands on the original's success, attracting other musicians with similar backgrounds who wish to participate.
More than just a solo project, it transforms into a collaborative endeavor driven by Adrian Quesada's creative vision.
Scheduled for release on June 27th, 'Boleros Psicodélicos II' showcases a variety of artists, including Los Angeles singer-songwriter Cuco, pop artist Angélica Garcia, Chilean singer-songwriter Gepe, Cuban vocalist Daymé Arocena, the Colombian gypsy-jazz group Monsieur Periné, Ed Maverick from Chihuahua, the Swiss-Ecuadorian duo Hermanos Gutiérrez, and more.
The new single ‘Ojos Secos’ has been released, produced by Adrian Quesada and Alex Goose, featuring vocals from Cuco.
Cuco describes it as “an old bolero” revolving around heartbreak, while Adrian notes...
I was taken aback by how many people were aware of Boleros Psicodélicos. In record stores and radio stations, people globally were inquiring about a potential volume two. However, I definitely wanted a different perspective, as I didn't want to repeat the same album.
I let Alex Goose work on one of the tracks to see what he could create, and the next day, I observed him in the studio. It was like entrusting the project to a hip-hop producer. He maintained its essence while making daring choices. I aimed for the album to feel timeless, but I didn't want to give the impression it was recorded in the ‘70s anymore.
I wanted it to sound just as impactful alongside a Bad Bunny record. The first Boleros Psicodélicos was created remotely during the pandemic, without anyone else in the studio with me. I had written additional songs in that style and wanted to explore further. I could create countless songs in this vein; it’s where I’ve been both sonically and mentally. It’s my favorite creative space.
Stay tuned.
