The newly formed Jenner Fox Band from Washington invites us to pause, breathe, and become aware of what we've been overlooking in “Right Away” – the tender fourth single from their anticipated debut album. This warm, subtly captivating track brings us back to the present moment, one breath, one creak, and one heartbeat at a time.
There's an unusual ache tied to absence – not just the absence of individuals or locations, but the lack of presence itself. We navigate the world in a state of half-awareness, our bodies here while our thoughts drift elsewhere: to-do lists, what-ifs, and the burden of unspoken words. Dogs bark. Birds chirp. Water drips. Doors creak. Life continues, steady and indifferent, as we find ourselves caught in between. Relationships evolve, and we continually pass them by.
Sometimes, we overlook the way light falls on the floor or how the wind shifts moments before the rain. Occasionally, all it takes is a soft sound, a familiar voice, or a single line of melody to gently draw us back into the moment – to remind us that we are still present.
Such is the magic of “Right Away,” a warm and subtly captivating song that reacquaints us with the present – not by demanding our focus, but by patiently earning it. With just thirty words filled with emotion, the Jenner Fox Band encourages us to sit still, breathe, and become aware of what we’ve neglected. Intimate, immediate, and simple, they pull us out from our distractions into the here and now – one breath, one creak, one heartbeat at a time.

Atwood Magazine is thrilled to premiere “Right Away,” the fourth single from the Jenner Fox Band and the latest release ahead of their upcoming debut album, Anything (set to release on May 9 via The Thumb Records). The Bellingham, Washington group — featuring singer/songwriter Jenner Fox, guitarist Jeremy Elliott, lap steel and dobro player Benji Nagel, bassist Aaron Moore, and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Guest, — made their introduction this past January with the spiritually uplifting “Heart Tattoo” and has since been unveiling new music monthly. Following March’s four-track Knick Knack EP (an early glimpse of what’s to come), “Right Away” highlights the band's synergy, showcasing both their instrumental skills and vocal harmonies prominently.
For Fox, the formation of this band coincides with the ten-year anniversary of his entry into the music world, following The Moon that Moves the Sea — a collaborative album he and guitarist Jeremy Elliott released last year. Although Anything serves as their official debut as the Jenner Fox Band, these longtime friends and collaborators have been performing together for years. Their musical chemistry is profound and evident — not just in the songs themselves, but in the care and intimacy with which they were created. Fox shared earlier this year, “In June, Jeremy, Benji, Aaron(s), and I spent five days making an album in the woods by a river at Sage Arts [in Arlington, Washington]. It’s our first effort officially as ‘Jenner Fox Band!’” This sense of unity permeates throughout Anything, a record born not just of music, but of shared moments, mutual trust, and a deep passion for the creative process.

It’s fitting that “Right Away” was the first track the band recorded at Sage Arts; it serves as a gentle, grounding entry into Anything — embodying the spirit of deep connection and presence that defined those five days together in the woods. Fox recollects: “'Right Away’ was the first song we tracked during our five days of recording live to tape. I opted for live recording partly because our band shines when all the melodic instruments engage in conversation: allowing space for each other, reacting, and completing ideas.”
“For me, the staggered entrance of the instruments in ‘Right Away’ captures that deep listening and serendipitous connection. It has a natural flow. Lyrically, ‘Right Away’ carries a nursery rhyme quality: ‘Dogs bark, birds cheep, lovers change, and I keep, passing you by.’ There are only thirty individual words in the song. There aren't enough words to conceal behind.”
To pass someone by means to miss them in motion — to see their presence without ever truly connecting. It’s a feeling of proximity tinged with distance, an almost-connection frozen in time.
With “Right Away,” the Jenner Fox Band encapsulates that subtle ache with warmth, grace, and an open-hearted vulnerability that feels both timeless and
