Dosey’s latest EP ‘maybe i’m just terrified’ offers a visceral and cathartic listening experience, consisting of three singles along with their demo versions. He understands the significance of demos and the connection they create between artist and listener, recognizing it as a fading practice he has embraced since the beginning of his career and is determined to preserve.

“I have a strong passion for releasing demos. I wish my favorite artists would do this more often.” It’s St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2025), and I feel incredibly fortunate to be attending Dosey’s EP listening party at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The theater was filled with close friends, family, and industry professionals to commemorate the launch of ‘maybe i’m just terrified’ and experience the 6-track project in Dolby Atmos and complete darkness. Having never listened to anything in Dolby Atmos before, I doubt I’ll ever have the same experience again. The intricate orchestral arrangements recorded at the legendary Shangri-La resonated throughout the theater, juxtaposed against Dosey’s raw and heartfelt demos often created in his bedroom.

“The distinction between the polished tracks we produced at Shangri-La and the demos lies in my intention for the demos: to foster a deeper, more personal connection with the lyrics, as opposed to the music itself. Shangri-La is remarkable; we were able to incorporate live instruments and build an intricate world for each song. I can’t think of a better place to do this. I'm really fortunate.”
Dosey has been creating music since childhood, often wandering around his family home composing melodies. In high school, he released “Sunday Morning” on SoundCloud, recorded from his iPhone 4S voice memos, and watched it accumulate a quarter of a million streams. This raw cathartic expression is a fundamental aspect of Dosey’s identity as an artist.

“I typically write most of my songs at home alone, which is how I prefer to create. Shangri-La pushed me to develop my process of sharing my work. Working with Tyler, we wrote ‘Cold Weather’ in no time at all. It was incredibly organic, with the words flowing effortlessly, which was an inspiring experience. It completely changed my perspective on collaboration and songwriting. I greatly value my connection with Tyler because it’s not something I share with many of my collaborators.”
Objectively, ‘maybe i’m just terrified’ resonates with me as a listener because it feels as though Dosey is actively challenging himself to evolve while remaining true to his roots. The entire experience has an element of serendipity.
Dosey’s manager, Chene Castrodale, united Dosey, Tyler Harris, and Cody Doss to write and record the project at Shangri-La. The outcome? An emotive collection of timeless anxieties imbued with a sense of place. Dosey brings the sacred space of his bedroom writing into the vulnerability and intimacy of his songs.

“It’s been over a year since our first visit to Shang. Even though the project is new, listening to it brings back memories. Tracks like ‘Sacrifices’ and ‘Cold Weather’ really transport me back to that time.”
Experiencing the project in Dolby Atmos, surrounded by friends and mentors, marked a pivotal moment for Dosey in his career. There was a palpable energy of focus and engagement demanded by the music. It truly felt like we were with Dosey in his bedroom, collaboratively crafting these tracks. This was the closest I’ve ever felt to such an experience.
“I felt almost unworthy to be there. It didn’t feel like it was about me; it was as if we were all watching a movie. I don’t know if it will ever seem real. Many musicians and creatives say this once things start to pick up. This is year 12 of my musical journey, and year 1 of it actually gaining traction.”

Riding the wave of momentum, Dosey has ambitious plans to release an album in the future. “I have a multitude of songs I want to share,” he reveals. Before that, you can catch him headlining at the Mint on April 25th. “I try to create a sense of home wherever I go, honestly.”
That feeling of comfort and ease permeates throughout the entire EP. That’s what makes it effective. Dosey remains that same captivated child who fell in love with music, just a bit older and perhaps a little more apprehensive than before.
