Interview with LØLØ: "Possibility" Abounds for This Gifted Artist from Toronto - Atwood Magazine

With her new single, “possibility,” now released and an exciting summer ahead, things are looking bright for Toronto's LØLØ.

LØLØ opens “possibility” with the lyrics, “One, two, three, four… God, I’m one pathetic MF,” showcasing the inner turmoil of jealousy and paranoia that characterizes her song's persona, who admits to "stalking you online just like a loser." Despite this, such a description would hardly fit LØLØ herself at this stage in her career. Instead, terms like “impressive,” “accomplished,” and “on a hot streak” are far more fitting for an artist who has consistently released music over the past six years, made numerous festival appearances—including the forthcoming Warped Tour in Atlantic City this June—and is gearing up for a largely sold-out US tour this summer.

LØLØ explains her experience of paranoia in her lyrics:

      “Paranoia has poisoned my mind,

      Thinking about your life

      before you were in mine

And you told me you love me tonight

      But you loved someone else

      once upon a time

      You broke her,

that means you could break me

      It’s a possibility

Might be crazy, but I’m not naive

      It’s a possibility.”

Though it may sound like the typical rockstar lifestyle, LØLØ remains grounded amid all the excitement. “I’m just a girl trying my best to be human,” she states. "I create music to express my feelings and to let others know they’re not alone. Whether you’re crying to a song or dancing around and screaming, just remember we’re all in this together.”

LØLØ (real name Lauren Turner) shared insights about the international call that inspired “possibility,” her inspiration from the dualities of robots, and much more during a candid chat with Atwood Magazine.

      **A CONVERSATION WITH LØLØ**

**Atwood Magazine:** How did your upbringing in Toronto influence your musical and creative identity?

**LØLØ:** Toronto has a vibrant music scene, and it was even more thriving during my youth. Many artists have since moved to Nashville and LA, but when I was growing up and getting into music, there were numerous open mic nights and performances. I had obsessions with Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan, which were iconic Canadian acts. Being surrounded by that kind of music definitely shaped my writing and aspirations.

**It seems like you began formally making music around 2019 or 2020. How would you describe your artistic growth since then?**

**LØLØ:** When I first started writing, I was still discovering my style. My influences included Avril Lavigne and Green Day blended with Taylor Swift. By 2021, I felt less constrained to conform to a certain pop mold and started producing music that felt authentic to me. I’ve been embracing pop-rock, and while it’s hard to label my music entirely, I’m creating what I love now, which I’m proud of.

**Your full-length debut, falling in love with robots and wishing I was one, was released this past June. How did this album come together over the past year?**

**LØLØ:** I always felt the need to produce an album, knowing it was a significant undertaking. Initially, I was releasing EPs and singles without knowing the direction for my album. The last song I wrote for the album, "u & the tin man," felt incredibly special; it sparked the idea for the concept of the album. It started from a song that poked fun at someone for being “robot-like” and evolved into another song where I expressed a desire to be numb like a robot. This duality inspired the album title and its overall themes.

**How did it feel to transition into making the LP?**

**LØLØ:** It made me feel like a legitimate artist. I remember waking up the day after my album’s release thinking about how I had to create another one already. It was surreal to finally accomplish that goal.

**What new material is featured in the deluxe edition of the album?**

**LØLØ:** The deluxe includes “possibility” as a single, along with several other tracks such as a demo of “u & the tin man,” a sad version of “hot girls in hell,” and a live rendition of “die without u.” It's just some extras for the fans, and I believe they would appreciate
