Kali Uchis – With Sincere Regards,

Whisper-soft R&B that explores themes of love...

      09 · 05 · 2025

The remarkable consistency of Kali Uchis’ artistry deserves admiration. In under ten years, she has presented us with five albums in two languages, celebrating the various aspects of her American-Colombian heritage. Never overly dramatic, the skilled control and sensuality in her sound have subtly broadened the vocabulary of R&B, while reinforcing her unique perspective. ‘Sincerely,’ marks her first English-language album since the 2023 release ‘Red Moon In Venus,’ coming after last year’s Spanish album ‘Orquídeas.’ Working efficiently, she maintains high quality throughout 14 luminous tracks of ultra-sensual R&B that transition from heartbreak anthems to intimate satisfaction.

This album embodies soulful consistency, with ‘Sincerely’ indulging in a diamond-infused sound. The slow-moving opener ‘Heaven is a home…’ establishes her intent: delicate sonics, an opaque arrangement luxuriating in soft tones, where its gentleness becomes a superpower. With its rich landscapes of warm, inviting sound, the album encourages you to take your time – ‘Sugar! Honey! Love!’ is charming, and ‘Lose My Cool’ showcases an exceptional piece of chilled neo-soul.

The ringing synths and stripped-back beat in ‘For: You’ evoke the instrumental skill of BADBADNOTGOOD, while the simplicity of ‘Silk Lingerie’ highlights Kali Uchis’ voice as an instrument of sheer elegance.

The enchanting soundscapes in ‘Territorial’ linger beautifully; the smooth ‘Fall Apart’ tugs at the heart, yet Kali shifts gears with the doo-wop inspired ‘All I Can Say,’ a track that the late David Lynch would have certainly appreciated for its otherworldly quality.

Meticulously crafted, the album's climax maintains the subtle intensity that makes ‘Sincerely’ such a captivating listen. ‘Angels All Around Me…’ echoes Sault in its expression of love, while ‘Breeze!’ nods to her Millennial R&B influences – think the majestic Aaliyah and you're on the right track.

Ending with the affectionate ‘ILYSMIH,’ this record dims the lights and revels in the shadows. At times reduced to mere whispers, ‘Sincerely’ strips away the superfluous to reveal the raw essence of love. Another outstanding achievement, it’s well overdue to recognize Kali Uchis as a transformative talent in R&B.
