Here we go again. The Great Escape is undoubtedly a marathon, not a sprint – with 450 artists participating over four days, the event makes use of venues across all parts of Brighton. Amidst the hustle and bustle, however, reputations are built – the last twenty years have seen The Great Escape propel the careers of thousands of artists, creating a global reputation as a thriving hub for new music.
Scheduled from May 14th to 17th, this year's edition is perhaps the most eclectic and complex yet. Clearly, you’ll need a guide, a sort of primer if you will.
Look no further, friends – the Clash x Great Escape preview presents 22 acts that could dominate the weekend's discussions.
**Westside Cowboy**
To say that Westside Cowboy is riding high would be an understatement. Having recently clinched Glastonbury’s sought-after Emerging Talent competition, the four-piece followed up with a winning debut single ‘Shells’, released in collaboration with two fantastic indie labels – Heist Or Hit and Nice Swan.
With their gritty indie rock flavored with exceptional melodies, they resemble prime Teenage Fanclub or Pavement’s more straightforward moments. Additionally, they have a packed schedule this year – you definitely shouldn’t miss them.

**Chameleon Lime Whoopiepie**
Blending elements of rock, hip-hop, pop, and electronic music, Chameleon Lime Whoopiepie emerges as a vibrant and colorful force. Clash caught their performance at SXSW last year, and calling them a pleasant surprise is an understatement – they were incredibly entertaining, hitting downtown Austin like a wrecking ball. Seriously, cancel your plans and watch this band – expect to have a smile plastered on your face for weeks.

**Chloe Qisha**
The original ‘21st Century Cool Girl’, Chloe Qisha, embodies melodic perfection within her petite frame. With her recent EP ‘Modern Romance’ creating a stir online, her performance at The Great Escape is set to be one of those unforgettable moments – a magnificent live act, her towering ambitions are matched only by her impressive talent.
- **Thursday** – Patterns Downstairs, 9.15pm
**Sex Mask**
A quick Google search for ‘Sex Mask The Great Escape’ reveals a few options reminiscent of Kubrick’s *Eyes Wide Shut*, but set in Brighton. Let’s skip that part and focus on their music – sharp, abrasive post-punk with a metallic edge, Sex Mask’s enthralling pop concoction has made waves in their native Australia. This weekend marks some of their first performances in the UK, and tracks like ‘How To Be Cool At Parties’ could very well become this year’s anthems.
- **Thursday** – Komedia Studio, 3.10pm
- **Thursday** – Patterns Downstairs, 7.15pm
**The New Eves**
Brighton’s own The New Eves will be performing at The Great Escape, and what better setting could there be? Ritualistic and sometimes folk-like, the quartet’s unique and eerie songwriting delves into the uncanny, capturing sights glimpsed from the corners of our vision. Their debut album ‘The New Eve Is Rising’ will be out this summer – prepare to be entranced by their melodies.
- **Friday** – Chalk, 6.15pm
**Azamiah**
Based in Glasgow, Azamiah made waves with their stellar debut album ‘In Phases’, which fuses neo-soul songwriting with club energy and jazz improvisation. Their upcoming EP ‘Two Lands’ is due out this summer, showcasing a band that is truly coming into their own; live, Azamiah’s command of tension and release, along with their pursuit of uniqueness, ensures each performance is extraordinary.
- **Thursday** – Jubilee Square, 9.15pm
- **Friday** – Brighthelm, 2.30pm
**Betty**
With pop at its most independent, Betty’s raw and candid songwriting is sharp, humorous, and often explicit. An innate oversharer, the 24-year-old connects the dots between The Cure and Dua Lipa, as well as Sexyy Red and Sampha. A charismatic performer, she brings an explosive energy ready to take on the pop world independently.
- **Thursday** – Patterns Downstairs, 8.15pm
