U.S. Girls has released a new single titled ‘Like James Said’.
Meg Remy is returning with a new album, ‘Scratch It’, which is set to be released this summer through 4AD. Her comeback is marked by an ambitious nine-minute single, but she follows this with a more polished and concise track.
Out now, ‘Like James Said’ draws from a quote by James Brown – “dance until you feel better” – creating a softly alluring reflection on the transformative power of the dancefloor and the essence of letting go.
This track showcases U.S. Girls at its most pop-oriented, with Meg collaborating again with studio partner Rich Morel, adding to their collection of successful collaborations (‘Rosebud’, ‘4 American Dollars’).
The music video for ‘Like James Said’ offers a light-hearted vibe, directed and performed by comedian Tom Henry, who shares his thoughts:
When Meg approached me about creating a video for a song discussing dance, I was struck with inspiration – why not make a video centered around dancing? I'm not sure where these ideas originate from. I felt this character has a narrative, but fundamentally, I find someone striving to accomplish something, albeit without all the necessary skills, to be both amusing and intriguing, possibly even sad – essentially the two and a half qualities I aspire to embody as a comedian. This led me to enlist my dancer friend, Gillian, to help choreograph this dance piece, and I tried my best to perform it. Above all, I hope everyone finds it stunningly beautiful and that I receive an award for it.
Tune in now.
