There’s no denying that Damiano David’s voice is integral to his success. In his debut solo album, his soothing, sweet tones glide through melancholic orchestration, ethereal synthesizers, and acoustic melodies as he serenades his lover, revealing a softer side of the Måneskin frontman than we are accustomed to. While glimpses of his sensitivity have appeared in his earlier Italian-language songs—having gained fame as the lead of Måneskin, who finished second in Italy’s X Factor in 2017 and won Eurovision in 2021—the Italian language itself possesses such a sensuality and depth that the English versions of ‘Funny Little Fears’ fall short. Familiar melodies and song structures navigate through this predominantly beautiful, though somewhat predictable, 14-track album as Damiano searches for his identity as a solo artist. Songs like ‘Next Summer,’ ‘Bruise,’ and ‘Sick Of Myself’ tend to blend into one uninspired, gloomy tone, while ‘Tango’ and ‘Born With A Broken Heart’ rely on a similar piano motif to sustain their tunes. However, even amidst instances of sameness, tracks like ‘Voices’ and ‘MARS’ emerge as standout moments, showcasing the vocalist that the audience has come to adore. While modern music often adheres to specific sonic conventions, ‘Funny Little Fears’ unfortunately leans a bit too heavily on conventionality.
On her transformative album ‘There Is No Ship,’ Rose Betts addresses themes of grief, heritage, and personal development through elaborate production and deeply personal songwriting.

A much gentler side of the Måneskin singer than what we're accustomed to.
