Gordi and Anaïs Mitchell join forces on a new track titled ‘PVC Divide’.
Australian musician Gordi has finalized her upcoming project, with the new album ‘Like Plasticine’ scheduled for release on August 8th through Mushroom Music.
This album allows Gordi to explore some profound emotions, with ‘PVC Divide’ reflecting on the COVID period.
Throughout the pandemic, Gordi served in hospitals, and the memories of those times remain fresh – days filled with heartbreaking loss, sorrow, and the quiet solidarity people shared.
Brought to life in the studio, Gordi’s vocals are complemented by the remarkable Anaïs Mitchell.
Gordi shares…
During the pandemic, I worked as a doctor. Small planes at deserted airports flew us to isolated towns to restaff hospitals affected by COVID. From the airport to a serviced apartment to the emergency department, and so on – it was a cycle.
I witnessed the grief of others until, eventually, it became my own. The lyrics are woven from stories I read, discussions I had, and emotions I tried to contain.
They poured out the day I wrote this – I was in a space called Phoenix Central Park in Sydney, and as I started playing a guitar riff, the lyrics came to me swiftly. I created a drum loop that reverberated throughout the room, then began recording while playing the piano. It was all captured in that moment. Listening to this song is sometimes difficult for me, but it holds significant meaning.
Tune in now.
