Listen: “Dream Police” – Sienna Spiro
“Dream Police” has just arrived – a daring step by the 19-year-old British artist Sienna Spiro.
With production from Omer Fedi and Yakob, known for their work with Charli XCX and Kali Uchis (respectively), the London-based Spiro draws inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s Inception to create a dark, cinematic love story. This track combines edgy beats and mesmerizing textures with her naturally soulful vocals. Following her notable COLORSxSTUDIOS performance, this single marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for the emerging talent.
Dream Police – Sienna Spiro
I’ve been out cold ’cause this world I inhabit
Doesn’t have you in it, but I find myself yearning
You never made a plan, just a man on a mission
You know, you know
I’m coming with the dream police
If you’re ever leaving me
I won’t ever let you go
You know, you know…
– “Dream Police,” Sienna Spiro
Spiro first gained widespread attention with her deeply felt debut EP SINK NOW, SWIM LATER (released under Capitol Records) in February, showcasing her simplistic sound influenced by jazz, soul, and R&B, drawing from artists like Etta James and Amy Winehouse. The standout track "MAYBE." – which she describes as a reflection on recognizing one’s value and truly seeing someone after being in the dark for so long – has gathered over 100 million streams, connecting powerfully with audiences.
“I received so many messages from women about domestic abuse,” Spiro shares with Atwood Magazine. “It was truly eye-opening... I couldn't believe something I created had such an impact.”
All I wanted was to be your hostage
For you to bind me and never let me escape
If we’re honest, it took a long time
For you to even acknowledge my presence
You promised to take me places
Yet kept me waiting
How could I have been so mistaken?
But now I’m feeling worn down
I thought I was your preference
I believed in you for such a long time
Well, maybe this time
You’ll feel the pain I do
You won’t receive any sympathy
Because I got none from you
You couldn’t decide
My feelings aren’t unclear
– “MAYBE.,” Sienna Spiro
While social media significantly contributed to her rise – partly due to a viral TikTok cover of Donald Glover’s “Redbone” – Spiro maintains a clear perspective on the realities of online fame.
“No one’s doing a f*ing renegade dance to my song,” she laughs. However, instead of pursuing viral trends, she uses platforms like TikTok as a “sounding board” to engage with her audience without sacrificing her artistry.
Looking forward, Spiro is preparing for a summer filled with touring and festival engagements. More than the hectic schedule, she’s focused on presenting “the most authentic version” of herself in her music – one that is unafraid to confront hard truths in a raw and unapologetic manner.
I sleep so I can see you
I wish it were physical
I dream to keep you
Even if just for a moment
I return to the past, darling
Beautiful in the dress you gifted me
I know you won’t leave me hanging
So I’ll see you tonight
Yeah, I’ll see you tonight
I’m coming with the dream police
If you’re ever leaving me
I will never let you go
You know, you know
You know, you know
I’m coming with the dream police
I have to bring you back to me
I will never let you go
You know, you know
– “Dream Police,” Sienna Spiro
If “Dream Police” is any indication, Sienna Spiro’s next chapter will be as intriguing as it is layered. Atwood Magazine spoke with the rapidly rising artist to discuss her recent releases, touring experiences, and future plans.
