Emerging alternative pop artist Emilia Vaughn has unveiled a beautifully haunting single, “Limbo.” The song captured the attention of Matt Rollins during a visiting artist program at Berklee College.
Motivated by a period of self-reflection and creative doubt, Vaughn wrote “Limbo” while grappling with her artistic confidence. Fortuitously, during a workshop at Berklee where Rollins was participating, he discovered and chose “Limbo” as a key track for his production class.
This experience served as a pivotal moment for Vaughn, revitalizing a song that had unfortunately remained in limbo.
“While composing this track, I was intensely experiencing the uncertainty of being in limbo with my artistry,” Vaughn shares. “In a beautiful stroke of fate, the amazing artist Matt Rollings picked it for his production class. That moment breathed life into the song. It felt like the sign I had been hoping for, some steps along my yellow brick road.”
“Limbo” was recorded in various studios, including The Ark Studio and Shames Studio at Berklee College of Music, as well as The Woodshop in Trinidad, CA, featuring contributions from a skilled group of live musicians. Alongside Vaughn’s acoustic guitar and vocals, the rich instrumentation includes live drums and percussion by Otto Cook Sharp, piano by Michael Donovan, bass from Noam Bushkanitz, electric guitar by Andre Correa, and Rollings himself on glockenspiel and keyboards. Adam Schwartz and Matt Rollings handled the mixing, while Jake Arnowitz mastered the track.
