Cut Copy will release their new album ‘Moments’ on September 5th.
The Australian band is now working on their seventh studio album, continually pushing themselves to explore new territory.
‘Moments’, set to be released on September 5th, is their first album in five years and addresses the realities of adulthood.
Frontman Dan Whitford shares…
Five years have elapsed since our last album release. During this period, I became a parent, people in my life entered and exited relationships, the globe experienced a pandemic, and there was considerable social and political unrest. Consequently, I have had much on my mind, and creating this album has been a method for me to digest it all.
Musically, the entire band appreciated the sound of the previous album. It felt polished, contemporary, and emotive while still retaining that Cut Copy essence. We aimed to maintain that modern feel but transform it into something more vibrant, psychedelic, and euphoric, exploring how this style could develop and resonate on a dance floor rather than just in an ambient setting… After all, dance music is about connecting with each other. Euphoria simmers beneath the surface of most tracks, reflecting the Cut Copy essence.
In a bold step forward, the new single ‘When This Is Over’ blends sleek electronic elements with a children’s choir featuring kids from Candlebark School in Romsey, VIC, conducted by Georgia Brook and recorded by James Cecil, a member of Architecture in Helsinki.
A refreshing comeback, ‘When This Is Over’ seeks to evoke a sense of community. Dan Whitford notes:
As humans, it can sometimes be challenging to discover common ground when pain runs deep, but as the song expresses, ‘we’re more the same than you’ll ever know.’
