Robert Plant is fond of the festival – but what is the reason Led Zeppelin never performed at Glastonbury?

He was moved to tears at Worthy Farm in 2022.

One of the enduring enigmas surrounding Glastonbury is why Led Zeppelin never headlined the festival. This iconic Somerset event has become a legendary part of British culture, yet for some unexplained reason, Led Zeppelin never performed at Glastonbury.

It's an intriguing historical contradiction. Led Zeppelin did headline another festival in Somerset—the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music—in 1970, during their rise to international fame.

However, they never managed to perform at Glastonbury. In a radio interview, organizer Michael Eavis extended an open invitation to the surviving members of the band—Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones—offering them the chance to headline if they desired.

In an interview with Ireland AM, Eavis expressed his belief that "it will happen one day – I’m sure of it. They will do it."

He may very well be right—Robert Plant and Jimmy Page shared the stage at Glastonbury in 1995, and Plant has returned to the festival several times since.

In 2022, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss performed together at Glastonbury, and the crowd's response moved Plant to tears.

The pair delivered their rendition of ‘When The Levee Breaks,’ and the emotion in Plant's voice began to crack under the weight of the performance. With the audience chanting his name, it became overwhelming for the rock icon, prompting him to express his feelings openly on stage.

      Watch that performance below.
