The vibrant trio continues to share their nighttime serenades.
London group Night Tapes – Iiris Vesik, Max Doohan, and Sam "Richie" Richards – today unveils their new single ‘helix’, taken from their debut album ‘portals//polarities’, set to release on September 26th through Nettwerk Music Group.
A track rich in oceanic musique noire, ‘helix’ weaves through balladic segments, trip-hop, and post-ambient textures, delving into themes of love as both redemption and desolation. It follows the ethereal single ‘pacifico’, which is part of a debut collection rich in immersive, topographic detail; listeners will experience sounds ranging from a gurgling swamp in Tallinn, Estonia, to wildlife and birdsong from Mexico, as well as a Los Angeles police helicopter and beyond.
Regarding the new single, Night Tapes shares:
“‘helix’ captures the moment when you’re heading to meet someone new, someone significant, leaving you uncertain whether it’s the best or worst choice you’ve ever made. It’s love that has the power to fundamentally change our lives, guiding us from one place to another—subjective heavens and subjective hells. People often do irrational things for love, and all we can do is hope they don’t gravitate toward the worst of what they’ve experienced. Yet, at times, the wrong person can lead us to the right destination.”
Comprising three electronic producers with a taste for analogue, Night Tapes inhabit a dreamy, expansive soundscape with an edge. ‘portals//polarities’ was crafted in a shared residence in Southeast London, adopting a muted, hushed quality to avoid disturbing their neighbors.
