From their roots in Louisiana to stages at festivals, Neutral Snap is energizing the pop-punk genre with heartfelt enthusiasm and nostalgia, clearly evident in their dynamic new single, “Danny ACOG.”
Listen: “Danny ACOG” – Neutral Snap
Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, Neutral Snap is a pop-punk powerhouse igniting the Southeast and beyond. Their music bursts with chaotic joy, featuring catchy hooks, explosive riffs, and nostalgic breakdowns that resonate from Louisiana to every venue they play. Their latest single, “Danny ACOG,” tells a classic story of unrequited love packaged in a vibrant pop-rock anthem. With punchy beats and gritty yet melodic vocals, the track expertly balances emotional depth with youthful optimism.
Neutral Snap’s EP, ‘I Hardly Know Her’, is set for release on August 8th. With over nine years together, this spirited quartet is made up of J.P. Brown (guitar), Joshua Latham (vocals), Dominick Conforte (bass), and P.J. Huesmann (drums). Their lively tracks like “Butterscotch” and “Yellow Suitcase” have won over fans. “Danny ACOG” is yet another infectious, high-energy offering. The band boasts nearly 5 million streams and is scheduled to perform at the upcoming Pop Punk’s Not Dead Festival.
The visuals for “Danny ACOG” radiate the same energetic essence as the song itself. The music video features clips of Neutral Snap performing, interspersed with scenes of an elderly man connecting with their music. The concept powerfully showcases the connection between older generations and today’s youth.
The upcoming EP, I Hardly Know Her, captures the true spirit of pop-punk, enhanced by additional energy and refined production. This release marks Neutral Snap’s first collaboration with other artists, featuring songwriting contributions from Tom Denney (A Day to Remember), Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday and Say Anything), among others.
I Hardly Know Her delivers a fresh perspective on a rejuvenated genre that is instantly appealing. Atwood Magazine recently interviewed Neutral Snap’s J.P. Brown about their new single, the music video, collaborative efforts, and much more!

A CHAT WITH NEUTRAL SNAP
I love the name Neutral Snap. What does it signify?
J.P. Brown: There's a fun story behind it. Our vocalist Josh earned his Eagle Scout rank in high school. During his automotive maintenance merit badge class around 2009, the teacher explained that revving an automatic car in Neutral to 7-8k rpms and shifting into drive causes a "Neutral Snap." Years later (around 2017), we discovered he had actually misspoke; the correct term is a “Neutral Drop,” oops!
“Danny ACOG” has been characterized as a timeless narrative about unrequited desire. What inspired the lyrics?
Brown: Unrequited Lust sounds like the name of an awesome hardcore band! The song outlines a situationship that's nearly at its end. The lyrics were inspired by personal experiences, and working with Tom really helped bring those emotions to life!
What was it like co-writing this track with Tom Denney, especially given his work with A Day To Remember?
Brown: Tom Denney is one of the kindest people you could meet! We had a blast working with him in his home studio. He was very open to our ideas and guided us on how to shape the song. We were also a bit starstruck looking at the gold records on his wall from albums we grew up listening to.
How do you integrate emotional vulnerability with the energetic sound of pop-punk?
Brown: I've always listened to high-energy pop-punk with deeply personal lyrics, so blending the two when I began writing music was surprisingly easy. We've built our reputation on the road with high-energy performances, making it natural to inject that energy into our songwriting.
The music video includes live performance scenes of the band, mixed with footage of an older man enthusiastically jamming at home. What inspired this concept?
Brown: Since this is our first release in a few years, we felt it was important to pay tribute to the place that launched our career – Fred’s Bar in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. All members of NS went to LSU, and we played our first show there in September 2014. To our surprise, Shaquille O’Neal even showed up and joined us on stage. We’ve regularly performed at Fred’s for over a decade; it has truly been our home. The footage of the older man enjoying our music came from our friend Mackenzie Andrews, who compiled a vibrant montage from various clips of us over the years. She creatively involved her grandpa reminiscing about his days playing in a band
