London artist Demae advances her musical journey with the release of her new single ‘Don’t Play The Fool’.
The singer-songwriter first made waves with an EP released on Touching Bass, subsequently signing to the FAMM label founded by Jorja Smith.
Throughout this year, a series of singles have showcased the talent of this Harlesden-born artist, including ‘Ain’t Easy’ and the rhythm-focused ‘Millionaire’, highlighting her unique style.
Her latest single ‘Don’t Play The Fool’ was recorded in Gothenburg and stems from sessions with Swedish talent Erik Rodin of Little Dragon.
Demae shares…
“‘Don’t Play The Fool’ was one of the initial instrumentals that Erik Bodin (of Little Dragon) sent me before our collaboration in Sweden began. I immediately connected with the bassline and the strong, shimmering jingle melody in the background. Like much of my music, this piece draws from my recent experiences. I believe this track serves as a reminder to be kind but not at the expense of one's self. Stay grounded and don't let anyone take advantage of you… Don’t get played!”
A captivating exploration of alt-R&B world-building, ‘Don’t Play The Fool’ is accompanied by a new video directed by Ivor Lawson-Adamah.
