Nell Mescal is back with her new song ‘Carried Away’.
The Irish artist recently signed with Atlantic Records before heading to the U.S. for recording sessions in Brooklyn.
Teaming up with producer Philip Weinrobe, Nell is embarking on a new chapter, starting with her latest single.
Available now, ‘Carried Away’ presents a poignant blend of indie-folk, showcasing Nell's diverse influences more clearly. There’s a renewed sense of creative assurance, thanks to the producer enhancing the arrangement.
The track addresses a longing for reassurance, evoking feelings of disappointment in a relationship, which is quietly reflective.
“It’s a song about seeking assurance from someone in a tumultuous relationship and feeling let down by their response,” Nell shares. “Instead of reciprocating their love, they simply say they got carried away.”
Reflecting on the recording process, she notes: “The demo of this song is vastly different from the final version, and it was thrilling to create in the studio. Initially, I performed it solo with just my guitar for the band, and after just one playthrough, everyone jumped in, making the musical direction clear. Philip had some brilliant ideas. We considered altering a lyric in the second pre-chorus, and he had the whole band repeat the same section repeatedly while I wrote as quickly as I could... it truly elevated the song.”
Following her performances at the TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow and Somerset House in London, fans can look forward to much more from Nell Mescal in the weeks ahead.
