British producer and composer Sohn is set to release an instrumental album titled ‘Albadas (Dawn Songs)’ on October 10th through his new label, adaptpivotmove.
Over the past decade, Sohn has produced three albums for the esteemed UK label 4AD and collaborated with artists like BANKS, Kwabs, Rhye, and Lana Del Rey, blending analog warmth with modern minimalism in his productions.
Originally from London, his musical journey has taken him to Vienna and Los Angeles before he settled in the wooded area of Garraf, Spain. After spending time in his home studio, Sohn has founded his own imprint to showcase exploratory, process-driven music that transcends traditional song structures.
This album marks a subtle shift in SOHN’s creative process, focusing on conveying emotion through sound rather than lyrics. The title is derived from the Spanish word albada, which translates to “dawn song,” symbolizing a deeply personal ritual born during a tumultuous time.
‘Albadas’ is a serene and thoughtful work that emphasizes melody, mood, and texture. Regarding the creation of the album, SOHN explains, “Considering the events unfolding in the news cycle, using words and songs felt somehow inadequate, and I found it challenging to express emotions in a satisfying way.”
He continues, “I started a morning improvisation practice to capture my moods and thoughts before the day began. During a time when words eluded me, these dawn songs became my salvation.”
As a preview, Sohn has released the singles ‘Let Go / Ascent,’ accompanied by a short film of the same name created by Catalan artists Carla Cervantes Caro and Mònica Figueras Domènech, filmed during their own dawn rituals. Shot in the Empordà region of Spain during the early morning hours, it is a poetic exploration of observation, hope, fear, and ultimately, love.
A captivating listening experience, ‘Albadas’ opens an intriguing new chapter for SOHN, centered on pure, authentic creativity and capturing the essence of humanity.
