Rancho Deluxe – Nicki Bluhm
Emerging from the shadows of the past
Feeling like a tumbleweed
The wind keeps blowing
And I keep moving on
A lifetime spent searching for myself
Each day just mirrors the last
I decide to hop on the carousel and ride
It never stops, so I leap off
Now I’m truly finding my pace
Atwood Magazine is thrilled to premiere “Tumbleweed,” the latest single from Nicki Bluhm’s upcoming eighth studio album, Rancho Deluxe, available on October 3, 2025. Following her recent singles “Cumberland Banks” and “Simple Side of Me,” this track continues to contribute to Bluhm’s vibrant blend of folk-rock, Western psychedelia, ‘60s West Coast soul, and country-soul. Inspired by a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, “Tumbleweed” encapsulates the adventurous and collaborative spirit that drives Rancho Deluxe, which was recorded live in Bluhm’s Nashville home studio with her partner and producer Jesse Noah Wilson, alongside an impressive lineup of friends including Kai Welch, Jess Nolan, and Cameron Neal.
Bluhm radiates enthusiasm when discussing “Tumbleweed,” a track that captures both musical excitement and lyrical surrender.
“The guitar riff and tone by the incredible Shane Boeker (of American Aquarium) sets the tone for this song and always brings a big smile to my face, making me want to turn it up loud,” she shares with Atwood Magazine.
“Lyrically, ‘Tumbleweed’ is about letting go and having faith in the unseen. While I was writing, I envisioned my time floating through the Grand Canyon. The towering cliffs are so dramatic, and the river’s blind bends are so expansive; all you can do is wait to see what unfolds at each twist. You’ll find yourself at the mercy of nature’s pace – the wind, the current, and the weather. There’s no reason to worry or seek to control it; you must surrender and enjoy the ride.”
This philosophy resonates throughout the song, particularly in the chorus, where Bluhm sings:
If I could see around the bend
I would still close my eyes
Not looking back not looking ahead
I’m just along for the ride
Won’t waste my time on regrets
It’s the mistakes that make you wise
Her voice soars above the twisting guitar riffs and dreamy keyboards, drawing listeners into an exuberant soundscape that feels both timeless and fresh – a blend of ‘70s singer/songwriter vibes, yacht rock influences, and a dreamy Laurel Canyon atmosphere. It serves as not just a song, but a mantra: a reminder that life is less about the destination and more about being present for the journey.
Nicki Bluhm has always championed roots music, and with Rancho Deluxe, she reaches a place of stability and confidence: grounded in gratitude, resilience, and a love for her community.
“I’m moving forward in a new way but doing it on my own terms this time,” she beams.
“Tumbleweed” captures this spirit in vibrant hues – a delightful soundtrack for surrender, resilience, and the thrill of uncertainty. Rancho Deluxe will be released on October 3, 2025. For now, you can stream “Tumbleweed” exclusively on Atwood Magazine!
Stuck between the peak and the decline
Yet the path grows harder to locate
If it’s all or nothing, I must relinquish something
I’m weary of sacrificing my time
If I could see around the bend
I would still close my eyes
Not looking back not looking ahead
I’m just along for the ride
Won’t waste my time on regrets
It’s the mistakes that make you wise

"The most impactful songs and art are those that take risks," Jack Garratt shares with Atwood Magazine. In his remarkably audacious third album 'Pillars,' he lays everything on the line, turning red flags, deep wounds, and hard-earned insights into an honest portrayal of love, identity, and resilience. In our deep and expansive discussion, Garratt reveals his thoughts on ego death, the three pillars of love that influenced his album, and the unwavering motivation that led him to create his most fearless and vulnerable music to date.
A strong connection has always existed between rock music and science fiction. Both are considered outsider art forms, and their underground fanbases have frequently intersected.
