Beggars Banquet has announced the launch of a new podcast, States Of Independence.

A cherished name in UK music, Beggars originated as a record store near Earls Court in London before moving to Fulham. Captivated by the burgeoning punk scene, Beggars Banquet became instrumental in the development of independent music as a comprehensive creative network, eventually expanding to include various imprints as part of a larger label group.

As it approaches its 49th anniversary, Beggars has chosen to celebrate—after all, it's a bit more unique than a typical 50th celebration, isn’t it?

In line with the festivities, Beggars Banquet has revealed plans for a new podcast series, with the first two episodes set to premiere on September 11th.

The podcast is hosted by music journalist and producer Rob Fitzpatrick. The initial episodes of States Of Independence cover the founding of the shop and label, highlighting the rise of Gary Numan, who provided Beggars with their first number one single, "Are ‘Friends’ Electric?" in 1979.

Gary Numan will be featured on the podcast, along with notable figures such as Tim Burgess, Brix Smith, Billy Duffy, Robert Forster, Daniel Ash, and more.

Beggars Banquet’s founder, Martin Mills, shares some insightful reflections, mentioning that “there definitely was no instruction manual.”

States Of Independence premieres on September 11th.
