Optimo figure Keith McIvor, known as JD Twitch, has passed away.

The Glasgow-based DJ was diagnosed with an untreatable brain tumor earlier this year and entered hospice care. Optimo co-founder JG Wilkes confirmed the news of Keith McIvor’s death in an official statement. He was 57 years old.

Keith McIvor became interested in electronic music in the 1980s, fueled by a passion for EBM and industrial sounds. He was at the forefront when acid house emerged, leading the influential Edinburgh club night Pure during the 1990s and helping to establish Scotland as a prominent techno hub.

As the new millennium approached, weary of the limitations of club culture, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes founded Optimo to create a space for free expression. Initially hosting Sunday nights at Glasgow’s Sub Club, their independent ethos became synonymous with integrity.

“In a partnership lasting 28 years, he changed my life in countless ways, and together we ventured into avenues few get to experience,” Wilkes shared. “I am eternally thankful for everything he gave me, both as a musical partner and as a friend.”
