British-Canadian artist Rochelle Jordan releases her new album, 'Through The Wall', today under EMPIRE.
This album continues her collaboration with KLSH, who produced most of her previous album 'Play With The Changes'. 'Through The Wall' showcases Rochelle's evolution through a rich 17-track selection that draws influences from RnB and the club scene.
The project was previewed with singles such as 'Crave', 'Doing It To', and 'Sweet Sensation', and features collaborations with notable producers like DāM FunK from the West Coast, Chicago house icon Terry Hunter, Alabama talent Byron the Aquarius, Japan’s Initial Talk, and fellow Canadian KAYTRANADA on the trance-inspired track 'The Boy'.
Born in London and raised in Toronto by British-Jamaican parents, Rochelle’s music embodies themes of diasporic movement and hybrid identity, while remaining anchored in the emotional depth of classic ’90s R&B, earning her comparisons to influential artists like Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Aaliyah.
During her childhood, she immersed herself in the vibrant sounds from her older brother’s record collection, which included funky UK house, dark drum and bass, garage, and gospel samples.
Regarding her new album, which honors her independent spirit and the resilience needed in a demanding industry, Rochelle states:
“'Through The Wall' is a tribute to God and myself for the journey I’ve undertaken, celebrating the artist I’ve become. Feeling empowered and ready for all the positive things ahead, I believe these emotions are reflected in this album.
I’ve always embraced optimism as an artist, and choosing the indie path was a decision based on trusting my vision and resisting external influences. It wasn’t straightforward. Over the years, I encountered numerous obstacles that felt insurmountable—not just those barring me from achieving my goals as quickly as I desired, but also the mental barriers I created myself. Yet, I persevered. This album signifies that I’ve finally overcome that last barrier.
I feel invincible at this moment. This is one of those albums I once only dreamed of creating. And here I am, having made it. I take immense pride in 'Through The Wall'. I’m profoundly thankful, and I hope it inspires you to smile, cry, dance, sing, fall in love, and remember that there is always light amidst the darkness.
Special thanks to my big brother Junior, who used to blast his UK garage mixtapes so loudly that I could hear them through my bedroom wall. Mom was always shouting, 'Turn it down!'… Thank you for keeping it up.
A special thanks to KLSH and all the collaborators involved in this project; I couldn't have done this without you.”
