We prefer creating music in spaces that feel familiar and homely. Being in a kitchen or a room with large windows resonates with us… We need an environment where we can connect with the vibe. The sound doesn’t have to be flawless or the speakers top-notch.

Home holds significant meaning for Josch Becker and Finn Gronemeyer.

Interestingly, I caught a glimpse of the duo for a few seconds before the Zoom screen went dark. Josch was in the passenger seat while Finn drove the van. I can’t recall their destination, but it’s typical of them to be on the move. They recently completed an international tour and are now navigating the whirlwind of the post-viral moment. This phenomenon of the twenty-first century has expanded their horizons, both literally and metaphorically.

      Interior – Zimmer90

Now, Zimmer90 has a clearer vision. Interior (set to release on September 19, 2025) represents an act of profound hospitality. The album welcomes anyone seeking solace with the invitation, “Come on in!”

Zimmer90 has ambitious aspirations. Eventually, Becker and Gronemeyer aim to evolve the project into a multidisciplinary creative platform—“not merely a band but a space for curating, collaborating, and feeling.” This album lays the groundwork for that very vision. Rearrange things, leave something behind, and stay a while.

The duo shared their thoughts with Atwood Magazine on crafting their debut album as a musical and mental foundation, reflecting their creative spirit and tranquility.

      A CONVERSATION WITH ZIMMER90

Atwood Magazine: The experience of music is crucial for Zimmer90. What musical experiences have been particularly memorable for you?

Finn Gronemeyer: I once attended a party in Berlin—

Finn Gronemeyer: Yes, I went to Berghain…

      Josch Becker: Right.

Finn Gronemeyer: I was wearing joggers. (laughs)

My theory is that if you wear something easy to take off, they’ll let you in.

Finn Gronemeyer: I understand that. (laughs)

Josch Becker: It was insane. The sound system was fantastic. We just wanted to experience it.

Finn Gronemeyer: It was the loudest thing I've ever encountered. Coming out felt like coming down from a high. Everything in there is turned up and loud.

I went out dancing one night. There was a DJ spinning some minimal techno vinyl. Sometimes he mixed four vinyls at once, crafting beats live. It created a trance-like experience; you couldn’t tell when one song ended and another began. I’d love to do something like that someday.

Josch Becker: When I was very young, my mother played in a classical orchestra, and seeing a full symphonic orchestra for the first time was mind-blowing as a kid.

Josch Becker: We enjoy making music in environments that feel familiar and homely. We like working in kitchens or spacious rooms with large windows. We’re not the type to use a basement studio with perfect acoustics; we just need a place that has the right vibe. Perfect sound quality or high-end speakers aren’t necessary. That’s why we created this project in ten different locations: in the French countryside, our studio in Freiburg, and various spots in Berlin, as well as on the road.

Can you distinguish a difference in the tracks based on their recording locations?

Finn Gronemeyer: Absolutely. Two songs that stand out are “Feel Myself” and “Wait for You.” We paired them as a double single, both written in an old farmhouse in the French countryside, which was a truly special setting. We experienced an immediate sense of peace there, and I believe that feeling is present in the record as well. We spent our days taking long walks and doing what felt right.

Your music has a minimalist quality. Have you always been drawn to this style?

Josch Becker: We’re captivated by synth pads; almost every song features a subtle pad in the background. We also appreciate drum and bass grooves. Our tracks exhibit this groove alongside varying synthesizer textures. It’s fascinating because when there’s not much melody apart from the vocals, it creates a spaciousness where the warmth of the chords becomes palpable in the background.

What led to the decision to release “Til the Morning Comes” as a single?

Finn Gronemeyer: That track feels quite
