Westside Cowboy has announced the upcoming release of their new EP ‘So Much Country ‘Till We Get There’.
The acclaimed band merges elements of Americana with sharp, post-punk riffs, creating a unique sound they refer to as ‘Britainicana’.
Having been a standout act at The Great Escape earlier this year, the band has signed with Island's sub-imprint Adventure Recordings for their second EP.
Scheduled for release on January 16th, ‘So Much Country ‘Till We Get There’ was crafted in New York with producer Loren Humphrey, known for his work on Cameron Winter’s remarkable ‘Heavy Metal’ album.
Now available, the live favorite ‘Don’t Throw Rocks’ has been transformed into a vibrant studio version that elevates the song to new heights.
Westside Cowboy shares…
This track originated as a fuzzy drum machine demo created by Jimmy in his bedroom, eventually making its way to the practice room before our first headline show at Castle Hotel.
Initially, we played it fast and loud, essentially using a New Order disco beat throughout. After finishing it, we thought, ‘This is good, right?’… but we weren’t entirely convinced. Just as we were about to abandon it, we decided to give it one more try. We maintained the tempo but shifted the focus away from the snare and hi-hats to the floor tom and its rims. This significantly changed the song's feel. Suddenly, instead of a two-minute foghorn blast, it began to rumble and build.
Jimmy’s lyrics explore themes of time and change, and how it often slips beyond our control and without consideration. We wanted the music to mirror this sentiment. With each section, we aimed to add intensity, increasing the energy until it became unmanageable. That’s where the outro plays a key role. It felt like the natural choice for the first single from So Much Country…, and we all sensed it after we listened to it.
