An inspired, multi-dimensional comeback...
Coinciding with their 10th anniversary, JYPE’s record-setting girl group TWICE released ‘TEN: The Story Goes On’ on October 10th as a celebratory gift to themselves and their fans. The album includes a new English song titled ‘ME+YOU’ along with nine solo tracks — one for each member — which were previously teased in June during the promotion of their fourth studio album, ‘This Is For’. While most members of TWICE have showcased their talents through solo projects or singles, this is the first occasion where each member has a dedicated song on a group album.
‘ME+YOU’ opens the album with a gentle R&B/soul vibe, featuring melodic elements reminiscent of TLC. All nine members contributed to the lyrics, crafting a heartfelt declaration of unity and friendship, singing, “I’m grateful that you’re my best friends until the end.” The girl group reaffirms their lifelong sisterhood and cohesion after ten years together through soothing melodies and comforting vocals. Its touching message embodies their unbreakable bond: “So many dreams we’ve been chasing together / We’ve been through the tears and the laughter / Now we’ve found a happy ever after / I got you and that’s all that matters / I’m so glad you’re in my life.”
Nayeon’s ‘MEEEEEE’ shares similarities with her 2024 single ‘ABCD’ with its dance-pop flair, but this time she amplifies it with a Miami Bass tempo and R&B influences. Partnering with Tayla Parx on the lyrics and composition, their collaboration results in an infectious English single that highlights Nayeon’s radiant self-confidence. Across her albums ‘IM NAYEON’, ‘NA’, and this track, Nayeon has discovered a musical style that complements her soprano range. ‘FIX A DRINK’ aims to create a unique standout as Jeongyeon experiments with a blend of old-school Country/Folk and K-pop. As she sings about enjoying a warm evening while letting her concerns fade away, her mezzo-soprano tone combined with this genre is an unexpected yet harmonious match. This fusion of genres is rare, but Jeongyeon makes it enticing and leaves the audience wanting more. ‘ATM’, a vibrant R&B/Hip-Hop anthem, brought to life by JT Roach and K-Pop talent EJAE, is perfectly suited for TWICE’s leader, Jihyo. This track, which would fit seamlessly into her 2023 album ‘ZONE’, is the only one exceeding three minutes in length. ‘ATM’ captivates listeners with its auditory richness, showcasing her wide vocal abilities, smooth melodies, and confident delivery.
A notable transition in atmosphere occurs with ‘STONE COLD’ as Mina explores darker pop and deconstructed club genres. Her soft falsettos, unconventional pre-chorus, and haunting portrayal of a love that has grown cold contribute to a striking ambiance — forming a bold musical blend that might surprise her fans. ‘DECAFFEINATED’ is thrilling and addictive, mirroring Sana’s depiction of an irresistible yet perilous love. Her playful vocals fit perfectly with the tropical house and dance-pop fusion, maintaining energy throughout. Momo embraces the dance/deep house genre with ‘MOVE LIKE THAT’, a fitting choice from TWICE’s main dancer. Her deeper vocals oscillate between raspy rap and airy falsettos as she narrates an intimate moment between two people in a crowd. Though it feels brief, Momo’s vibrant energy draws listeners in with its enticing rhythm. Following MiSaMo’s 2023 release of Japanese albums ‘Masterpiece’ and ‘HAUTE COUTURE’, it’s intriguing to see how each member took unexpected sonic paths.
‘CHESS’ features an interpolation of Ludwig van Beethoven’s well-known composition ‘Für Elise’, creating a unique blend of classical music with Pop and Rap — a combination only possible under Dahyun’s songwriting. Although this track is the shortest on the album, her narrative conveys themes of overcoming betrayal and the strategic nature of victory. It cleverly crafts a seemingly playful tune that intimidates her adversary into a checkmate, as she sings, “I’m the monster you created.” After launching ‘LIL FANTASY vol.1’ in September, Chaeyoung presents a sugary UK Garage and Bubblegum Bass track titled ‘IN MY ROOM’. With delightful lyrics that evoke a vibrant sense of love, it appears she drew inspiration from PinkPantheress' style. Given its quick-paced rhythm, this song feels unfortunately short to absorb — but it is undeniably catchy and deserving of multiple listens. The final track ‘DIVE IN’ provides Tzuyu with the chance to explore the Pop/R&B genre. Its gradually building tension heightens anticipation, complementing its theme of revealing someone’s true feelings. When placed alongside her collaborative single ‘Blink’ with Corbyn Besson and her album ‘

Bands that do not perform in their native languages but rather choose to sing in English are not a new fixture in our vibrant music scene.
If last year’s Mercury-shortlisted, BRIT-winning debut was The Last Dinner Party’s ‘Prelude’, then the second album ‘From The Pyre’ is an entire symphony – a series of expansive sonic vignettes that encapsulate young adulthood in all its splendid, imperfect, and multifaceted beauty.
