Sports Team have celebrated the announcement of a deluxe edition of their third album ‘Boys These Days,’ originally released in May, featuring a new single called ‘Medium Machine.’ According to lyricist Rob Knaggs, this track represents “what [Pavement] might have sounded like if [Stephen Malkmus] aimed to be Men At Work.” Anchored in nostalgic, slacker-rock vibes, ‘Medium Machine’ is the first of seven new songs that will appear on ‘Boys These Days (Deluxe),’ which is set to be released on November 5 through Distiller Records/Bright Antenna. Discussing these new tracks, written concurrently with the ‘Boys These Days’ demos, Knaggs remarked that “[they] fell in between two piles.” He elaborated, stating: “We had the electro-clash material along with the Prefab Sprout-influenced songs. ‘Living In Skin’ and ‘In America’ belonged to the electro-clash pile, written in January 2023. I likely had The Dare’s ‘Girls’ in mind and was recalling Kitsune compilations from the Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes era. We did not have enough material for a full electro-clash album, but this represents the leftover piece of that era. ‘Germany’ and ‘Dog Country’ just didn’t make the cut due to time constraints. At one point, the working title for the album was ‘Dog Country,’ which I thought was an apt metaphor for suburbia. However, when we arrived in Norway to record, it didn’t feel as pressing, and by the time we were wrapping up mixes, it had been set aside.” You can check out the visualizer for ‘Medium Machine’ and find more details about ‘Boys These Days (Deluxe)’ below.
