Listen: ‘Dark Harvest Pt. 2’ – Nick Mulvey
Music is often contemplated as a source of strength, community, and transcendental healing. Nick Mulvey recognizes this, crafting spaces for self-discovery through his creations. He dives into profound emotions and establishes a supportive environment to confront the questions we might usually shy away from. With Dark Harvest Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, Mulvey circles close to the sun. While Pt. 1 portrayed the preparation of inner awareness, Pt. 2 embodies the culmination of the harvest – the results of his labor emerging for spiritual enlightenment.
Dark Harvest Pt. 2 – Nick Mulvey
The Dark Harvest experience has been an extensive exploration of self-discovery, spirituality, and profound healing. After diving into Dark Harvest Pt. 1 earlier this year, Pt. 2 emerges as a call to action. Kicking off with “Every Open Heart,” Mulvey reintroduces Dark Harvest against a vast landscape of diverse textures and layers. From the rhythmic beats of “Supernatural Healing” to the slow, meditative tones of “Handing It Over,” Dark Harvest Pt. 2 conjures a realm of light, darkness, and everything in between.
Rather than avoiding the darkness, Mulvey fully embraces it, allowing us to glimpse the light streaming through the cracks, akin to sunbeams glimmering through leaves. He channels these feelings of surrender and faith through his music, presenting the message as both a prayer and a visceral experience for his audience.
Having been nominated twice for the Mercury Prize throughout his career, Mulvey has established himself as a noteworthy artist. The lauded songwriter has experienced much in the industry, but the Dark Harvest albums signify more than just his latest work – they are his first to be released on his own label, Supernatural Records.
Atwood Magazine chatted with Mulvey as he geared up for the concluding shows of his tour. With just a few days until the release of Dark Harvest Pt. 2 (which is out now), Mulvey reflected on its creation, his evolution since crafting the music, and how touring has shifted his relationship with it.

A CONVERSATION WITH NICK MULVEY
Atwood Magazine: Congratulations on the new record and your ongoing tour! How has your experience been?
Nick Mulvey: These past weeks have been quite unusual for me. It’s been a mix – performing to audiences each night feels so rewarding, but it’s also intense. I'm touring with a wrist injury that has taken its toll, making it especially challenging for musicians on the road. With the upcoming release, there’s been a lot to manage behind the scenes as well. Despite all that, connecting with my fans, gathering in that space between right and wrong, and encountering one another along with something beyond our understanding, I feel completely at home. It feels like my calling. It’s immensely fulfilling, worth every effort, and something I cherish.
What has been the highlight of the tour so far?
Nick Mulvey: There have been numerous highlights. Each show is one-of-a-kind, which I truly appreciate. They all carry their own essence, and my fans elevate me – I love engaging with them, singing together, and sharing those unified moments filled with love, joy, and harmony. I strongly believe that God loves music.
Recently in Barcelona, while performing “Fever to the Form,” the audience spontaneously began clapping – in that unique Spanish flamenco rhythm. The whole crowd synced with my strumming, creating an electrifying atmosphere; it felt exhilarating.
Have the songs from Dark Harvest Pt. 1 taken on new meaning after performing them live?
Nick Mulvey: Absolutely, they transform in different ways… as I live with them; stripping them down to just me and my guitar (as it's a solo tour this year); and hearing my audience sing them back to me.
The song “Dark Harvest” has evolved significantly for me – I now play it on a low-strung baritone electric guitar filled with rich reverbs, giving it a weighty and impactful presence. It truly reflects the song’s themes. I wish I had discovered this sound during the recording process…
Where Dark Harvest Pt. 1 was about the cultivation, Dark Harvest Pt. 2 represents the harvest itself. After releasing and performing Pt. 1, do you feel like you're uncovering anything new in the lead-up to Pt. 2?
Nick Mulvey: I view Part 1 as the inhale and Part 2 as the
