From the Dancefloor to the Deep End: Arnault Hardy Begins His Solo Journey with “One After Another” - Atwood Magazine

French composer and electronic producer Arnault Hardy converses with Atwood Magazine regarding his solo debut “One After Another,” the challenge of balancing various musical identities, and his efforts to cultivate a creative utopia through his artist-led label.

For Arnault Hardy, music transcends mere sound—it serves as a reflection, a map, and a manifesto. Throughout his career, he has delved into nearly every facet of the music scene—from performing in post-punk bands during his youth to DJing in underground venues across Europe and India, as well as working as an A&R and marketing manager for major labels like Virgin and Sony Music. However, it is only now, in 2025, that Hardy is fully embracing his own name and voice as a solo artist. With his debut release “One After Another,” he presents himself not with exuberance or formula, but with clarity, playfulness, and a quiet strength that resonates long after the music fades.

Released on October 23rd, “One After Another” embodies a personal manifesto wrapped in movement. It features hypnotic grooves, textural embellishments, and a melodic heartbeat that dances between house and pop. Hardy aims to craft music that is “light, fresh, and organic”—not solely for dance floors but for life itself. This is music that welcomes vulnerability while maintaining momentum, designed to feel like emotion in motion. “I wanted to release something that resonates with my tastes as much as possible,” Hardy shares. “Something made for dancing but also for experiencing.”

Even though this is Hardy's first official release under his own name, his influence is deeply ingrained in the indie and electronic soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from icons like Kate Bush and The Cure to Aphex Twin and Donato Dozzy, he has developed a genre-fluid sound that merges ambient, techno, electro-pop, and experimental elements. He has DJed in diverse cities such as Paris, Stockholm, Barcelona, and Mumbai, frequently in unconventional settings, and has devoted recent years to music creation while establishing his own studio and launching the artist-led label La Société Anonyme de Musique et de Sons. This label is more than just a release platform; it is a creative collective rooted in values of freedom and generosity, asserting that music does not need to chase trends to be impactful.

This ethos is inherent in “One After Another.” The track exudes a discernible sincerity—a refreshing looseness in an era dominated by algorithm-driven pop. Hardy isn’t fixated on perfection; instead, he seeks feeling, flow, and connection. The composition radiates warmth and curiosity, creating space for both movement and melancholy simultaneously. This debut doesn’t clamour for attention but invites listeners to engage more deeply—to feel more profoundly and to allow the rhythm to transport them to unexpected places.

In this open dialogue with Atwood Magazine, Arnault Hardy shares his transition into solo artistry, the emotional authenticity that underpins “One After Another,” and the importance of building an artist-led community alongside fostering musical creativity. He discusses his artistic influences and the beauty of slow, intentional music production, welcoming us into his thoughtfully evolving world.

      **A CONVERSATION WITH ARNAULT HARDY**

*Atwood Magazine:* This is your first release under your own name. Why did you choose now as the moment to step into the spotlight as Arnault Hardy?

*Arnault Hardy:* It’s been a long journey with music since my childhood. I've mainly played and DJed, but seldom released material, despite having written many songs over the years. Lately, I’ve allocated more time to music production, and it felt like the right time to start sharing my work. I’m thrilled with how this track turned out, so I decided to release it under my real name which I’ll use for my personal projects.

You have a significant history in the music industry leading to this point. What experiences have shaped you into the artist we hear today?

*Arnault Hardy:* When I was 21, I was an A&R rookie and an artist brand assistant. I was fortunate to have many friends who were sound engineers in prominent Paris studios, so I got to work on album productions early on. I traveled a lot, connecting with artists, producers, and engineers, immersing myself in the captivating world of recording studios. Simultaneously, we began to experiment with computers and small home studios. Those experiences shaped me profoundly—not just technically but artistically as well. I became inspired by artists who expressed their truth, often conflicting with their labels yet steadfastly pursuing their own vision, which left a profound impression on me.

Having spent years DJing, how has that aspect of your career influenced your approach to composing, producing, or pacing your music?

*Arnault Hardy:* It’s crucial for me because I’ve played numerous styles of electronic music over the years.
