Robyn Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Sexistential’

Robyn has announced the release of her ninth studio album, ‘Sexistential’, set to drop on March 27th via Young.

The Swedish pop star kicked off this new chapter with the single ‘Dopamine’ late last year. Today, she expands the sensory universe of her upcoming album by unveiling two additional singles: the delightful pop track ‘Talk To Me’, co-written with Max Martin, and the pulsating title track, which was inspired by Andre 3000’s remark about people not wanting to hear him rap about his colonoscopy.

Robyn, who would be keen to hear that rap, decided to take a bold step. “It was my cue,” she shares. “I have to do this, I need to write a rap about IVF.”

Following the introspective club sounds of her 2018 album ‘Honey’ and the ‘Body Talk’ trilogy, ‘Sexistential’ features nine exuberantly playful pop songs that are intended to evoke the feeling of “a spaceship entering the atmosphere at high speed and crash landing.”

“That’s how I felt, like I’d been on a journey exploring deep space, and now I’m returning back to myself.”

Primarily co-produced with her long-time collaborator Klas Åhlund, ‘Sexistential’ is bold and energetic, unapologetically embracing both emotional and physical pleasure, desire, and softness. The album's title began as an inside joke before Robyn realized it captured her feelings at this stage of her life and career.

“Exploring my sensual life resembles the sensation I get when I create a great song,” she notes. “It’s a beautiful and delicate vibration that requires considerable effort to maintain. I believe my life’s purpose is to remain passionate – it doesn’t have to be solely about sex, but it's about feeling sensual and being drawn to the things I love, while not allowing anything to overshadow that.”

Alongside the singles, two music videos have also been released today: a lyric video for ‘Sexistential’ and a music video for ‘Talk To Me’, directed by Casper Sejersen. Check them out below.
