Tamino has teamed up with Mitski for his newest single, 'Sanctuary' - an emotional duet that features both artists harmonizing over six distinct verses. This track is part of Tamino’s upcoming album, 'Every Dawn’s A Mountain,' set to release on March 21 through erēmia/Communion Records. The collaboration began after Mitski invited Tamino to join her North American tour in early 2024, where they planted the seeds for a joint song, ultimately scheduling a day to record it.
"Two weeks prior to our studio session, I questioned whether the song we had was fitting for a duet," Tamino explained. "I collaborated with my friend Alessandro Buccellati (SZA, Arlo Parks) at my home in New York City, and in light of my uncertainties, we composed the music for 'Sanctuary' within a few hours. The next morning, I penned the lyrics, created a small demo, and sent it to Mitski, who really liked it and preferred it over the other song. I asked her if any lyrical changes were needed, but she appreciated it as it was. Two weeks later, she came to the studio, where she crafted beautiful harmonies and recorded her part within half a day."
He added, "I typically write alone and involve others much later in the process, once the songs have taken shape. Working with Alessandro has been eye-opening; for the first time, I feel that co-writing results in songs I consider worthy of release. ‘Sanctuary’ is the sole track on this album fully conceived through this collaborative approach. It's also the last addition to the record. Along with the fact that this song features another voice in what is essentially a very personal album, it stands out a bit. Nevertheless, it feels like a crucial track on this album. Furthermore, it’s surreal every time I hear Mitski's voice soaring over ‘Sanctuary.’”
