With production by longtime collaborator of The Strokes, Gus Oberg...
NYC-based band Gnarcissists have returned with their first single, ‘Broadway Baby,’ produced by Grammy-winning producer Gus Oberg, along with Johnny T.
This marks their initial release from their upcoming debut album, set for 2025, and comes as the latest installment following singer Matthew Orr’s near-fatal experience last year. The track was recorded beneath a bar in Manhattan's East Village during the summer of 2024.
Lead vocalist Matthew Orr proposed a screenplay he had been developing about the NYC ‘Cop Shot’ reward program to visual artist Kingcon2k11. Together, they collaborated to create an AI-driven music video, spending extensive hours on editing and additional animation.
The video features a narrative visually inspired by R. Crumb, 1970s cinema, and a nostalgic NYC, aiming to explore a controversial and innovative form of storytelling, delving into a unique genre of music video rarely seen. After making an impression on Clash’s SXSW stage in Austin last year, this upcoming LP represents a significant step in the band’s development.
