Jacob Alon's 'Liquid Gold 25' Discovers Emptiness Within the Abyss of Desire

Jacob Alon's 'Liquid Gold 25' Discovers Emptiness Within the Abyss of Desire

Jacob Alon has released a new song ‘Liquid Gold 25’ – check it out now.

The Scottish artist made a lasting impact with two exquisite tracks last year: the enchanting ‘Fairy In A Bottle’ and the brutally honest follow-up, ‘Confession.’

Released just as Jacob Alon wraps up a UK tour with a show at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, ‘Liquid Gold 25’ has already been featured in their live performances for some time.

This track brings a different energy, with a slight shift in dynamics that contrasts sharply with the brutally self-critical lyrics, which address the superficiality of dating and the often transactional nature of sex.

With a gentle and empathetic approach, Jacob gradually unravels the monotony of shallow encounters, instead revealing a sense of emptiness.

      Jacob reflects...

Someone once described this song as anti-romantic. It was inspired by a number of particularly degrading Grindr encounters that left me feeling worthless and empty.

For me, it’s about the painful loops of self-acceptance and self-hatred; deleting and redownloading... The self-destructive behavior of pursuing something I know will cause me pain... My tendency to dissociate and escape reality through hedonism and fantasy... Holding my breath until the pain subsides... Searching for connection in a world of superficial desire and objectification... and seeking validation through sex, which ultimately results in profound loneliness.

I don’t want to criticize it too harshly, because sometimes it can be enjoyable. But there are times when my desire for an escape leads me into very precarious situations.

Still, I find myself returning for more, hoping for a different outcome.

The music video was directed by fellow Scot, Lewis Baillie – a beautifully crafted representation of daydreaming.
