Indie-pop sensation Clairo has released a dreamy visual accompaniment for her track ‘Terrapin’, directed by the multifaceted Ayo Edebiri and starring the comedic icon “Weird Al” Yankovic.
‘Terrapin’ is from Clairo’s GRAMMY-nominated and critically acclaimed album ‘Charm’, which made it into the top ten of CLASH’s Albums of the Year list last year. Clairo, alongside producer Leon Michels—renowned for his collaborations with the Dap-Kings—imbued the album with a warm, harmony-rich sound, realized through flutesong, Wurlitzer, and organ.
The video for ‘Terrapin’, which features faint, sketch-like dreams, captures the nostalgic, doo-wop essence of the ’60s. Weird Al navigates a film set in formal wear, joined by background dancers (Mykel Marai Nairne & Rachel Gill), featuring psychedelic double exposure close-ups and a cameo from Clairo herself. This video marks Ayo Edebiri's directorial debut in music videos, recognized for her award-winning role as Sydney Adamu in FX’s The Bear. The production was facilitated by the company Curfew.
‘Terrapin’ comes after the Gold-certified ‘Juna’, which was accompanied by a music video shot at an indie wrestling event in Worcester, MA, and ‘Sexy to Someone’, in which Clairo celebrated a bonfire with a yeti.
