Doves have unveiled their new track ‘Saint Teresa’.
The band’s highly anticipated album ‘Constellations For The Lonely’ is set to be released on February 28th, with a slightly updated date.
This marks their first album since ‘The Universal Want’ in 2020, and they have just released a new preview that delves into lead singer Jimi Goodwin’s background with Catholicism.
In a late-night search online, the singer discovered an obscure saint, which inspired them to include the story of Teresa of Ávila in their music.
A 16th-century Spanish nun and reformer, her narrative serves as the foundation of a song that explores faith in its various aspects and the quest for meaning in our lives.
The band is in excellent form, and Jimi’s powerful vocals rank among their best work. He shares…
“By setting it aside, we could reassess it and enhance it. Andy and Jez contributed to it, and it's wonderful that it has found a place. My Catholicism faded away years ago, but I appreciate the church’s iconography. They put on an impressive display. I connect with it from my youth. The story of Saint Teresa is captivating.”
“Sometimes songs can be like a Rubik’s Cube,” adds Jez Williams. “You engage with it but find that you need to revisit it later, and only then do you truly understand how to approach it. ‘Saint Teresa’ was still persistently in our thoughts when we began recording the album, so we brought it into the sessions with Dan (Austin – co-producer), tweaking some parts, modifying a few lyrics, and it ended up turning out wonderfully.”
