Former black midi musician Cameron Picton has introduced his new project, My New Band Believe.
The beloved London band called it quits last year after releasing several thrilling albums and delivering a series of intense live performances. Geordie Greep was the first to announce the split, doing so during an Instagram Live session, after which he released a surreal, biting, innovative album under his own name.
Now, Cameron Picton from the band has emerged with his new endeavor. My New Band Believe has been in the whispers for a while, and the first single has now been launched.
Originally intended as a demo, ‘Lecture 25’ transformed into a fully-fledged song, arranged, recorded, mixed, mastered, and accompanied by a video, all within an astonishing eight-day period.
Out now, ‘Lecture 25’ pays homage to Dennis Hopper’s ‘Lecture 70’, with its rapid-fire lyrics reminiscent of Kerouac's style.
The video, directed by Jack Shep, portrays an after-hours adventure through South London that evolves into a surreal sensory experience.
For this recording, My New Band Believe consists of: Cameron Picton (Guitar, Vocals), Josh Finerty (Bass), King David Ike-Elechi (Drums), and Seth Evans (Piano).

Recently, I took a few days off from my main project to engage in various writing exercises. I hadn’t composed a proper song since before Christmas, so I figured it would be a good way to get started again. From a sizable batch, I ended up with three songs that had potential. Initially, I considered releasing them as they were, recorded with my laptop mic and Zoom H6, unpolished and raw, as they came right after I finished them, flaws included. However, once I sent them to Seth and he offered to mix them, I thought: why not record one properly? We tracked it at RAK on February 11, with the mixing done the following day. I also requested Jack (Shep) to make a video for it, which he filmed simultaneously, in time for a Valentine’s Day release.
The concept for ‘Lecture 25’ was to set another person's words to my music; I adapted Dennis Cooper’s Lecture 1970 into about half of the song's lyrics.
Additionally, I’ve created a third Camera Picture mixtape titled ’24m56s’ — it will be available exclusively at my solo shows in the US at the end of February. It features half songless beats and half beatless tracks.
