"I aim to write music instinctively - that's when you discover what you didn't know you were searching for." What was the first song you purchased with your own money, and why? What’s the latest song or record you have bought (and why)? I've never purchased a song because I typically listen to music online on YouTube. However, I do have a Miles Davis ‘Bitches Brew’ vinyl that I received as a Christmas gift - it’s one of my all-time favorite records. You’ve described the title track of ‘Evenfall’ as “a space in time that exists between what has already happened and what is yet to unfold.” Can you elaborate on this? Why does the concept of liminality resonate with you in terms of songwriting or themes? How did you translate this somewhat abstract feeling into vocal and instrumental elements? These emotions emerged as I reflected on the song after creating it; I didn’t set out to convey that feeling. I just try to compose music without overthinking - that’s when you stumble upon things you didn’t realize you were after. What’s the best and worst advice you’ve received as a musician? The best advice was to maintain a clear vision, a concept I didn’t grasp for some time, but once it clicked, it really clicked. I wouldn't categorize any advice as bad; people can offer guidance that may not suit you but might be perfect for someone else. Lastly, if DIY were coming over for dinner, what would you prepare? I’m not much of a cook, so I’d likely just order some cheeseburgers.
