Lindsay Olsen, also known as Salami Rose Joe Louis, will be releasing her new album titled ‘Lorings’ on April 25th through Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label.
Regarded as her most personal and exploratory collection to date, ‘Lorings’ was created independently on Olsen’s Roland MV8800 workstation. For a few tracks, she collaborated with friends including guitarist/producer Flanafi (who partnered with Olsen on the upcoming 2024 collaborative album ‘Sarah’), Omari Jazz, Luke Titus, and Sergio Machado Plim.
“I wanted to skip over the process of overthinking how others perceive me,” Olsen reflects on this new phase. “It feels as though each song represents a distinct part of my personality laid out for others to consume, which is a daunting idea [haha].”
In ‘Lorings’, Olsen delves into themes such as imposter syndrome, love, heartbreak, family and parenthood, superficiality, and her grievances with the music industry. The lead single, ‘Insides’, which you can listen to below, features airy Polybrute arpeggios that transport listeners into a stark alt-jazz landscape. Emerging from a challenging period in Olsen’s life, the track symbolizes the more somber aspects of the album, alongside songs brimming with optimism, hope, and lightness.
Olsen’s debut album on Brainfeeder, ‘Zdenka 2080’, released in 2019, garnered her an Album of the Year nomination at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards. Since then, she has toured globally with genre-defying artists such as Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra, Toro y Moi, TuneYards, Clairo, and MNDSGN. In 2023, she released the album ‘Akousmatikous’, following her 2019 sci-fi journey.
