Interdisciplinary artist Kilo Kish makes a return with a new EP titled ‘Negotiations’, set to release on May 16th via Independent Co.
This EP follows the critically acclaimed 2022 album ‘AMERICAN GURL’ and features a visual prelude named ‘r3program’, which offers a cold, techno-influenced commentary on class inequality, personal agency, and creative exhaustion in a rapidly digitizing industry.
The music video for ‘r3program’, directed by Kish and David Laven, and produced by Even/Odd, is part of a collection of films that will accompany the EP, all filmed within the same contained space and environment. “I enjoy crafting project worlds and characters that symbolize ideas or metaphors,” Kish remarks. “The video is a reference to the suits I wore during the ‘Reflections in Real Time’ period, and it plays on an office worker character I’ve been examining since 2016, representing the resilience of the working class.”
Currently, Kilo Kish is curating a residency in collaboration with Womxn In Windows at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, celebrating the launch of American Gurl: home–land. This presentation features six short films that address themes of land, diaspora, and displacement from artists including Melvonna Ballenger, Shenny De Los Angeles, Ella Ezeike, Solange Knowles, Alima Lee, and Cauleen Smith. The exhibit opened on February 15 and will continue until April, concluding with a performance on May 4th.
