Car Seat Headrest Reveals New Album 'The Scholars'

Car Seat Headrest has announced plans for their ambitious album titled ‘The Scholars’.

This album sees the band exploring the post-pandemic landscape, grappling with unexpected viral acclaim, and adapting to new working methods. It blends some of their most intense work yet with their most intricate compositions.

Set for release on May 2nd, ‘The Scholars’ draws lyrical inspiration from figures like Shakespeare, Mozart, and classical opera; it is loosely regarded as a concept album, incorporating elements reminiscent of The Who’s ‘Tommy’.

The album features some of their longest compositions to date, with the centerpiece being the nearly 19-minute track ‘Planet Desperation’.

Produced by vocalist Will Toledo, the band – which includes lead guitarist Ethan Ives, drummer Andrew Katz, and bassist Seth Dalby – is venturing into new artistic territories.

The new single ‘Gethsemane’ is available now; it’s a bold and relentless 11-minute exploration of sound, accompanied by a short film directed by Andrew Wonder.

Commenting on the song, Will Toledo says:

“Rosa is a student at the medical school of Parnassus University. After an incident where she revives a medically deceased patient, she starts to reclaim powers that were suppressed since childhood, enabling her to heal others by absorbing their pain. Each night, instead of dreaming, she confronts the raw pain and narratives of the souls she encounters during the day. The line between reality and imagination begins to blur, leading her to hidden facilities beneath the medical school, where ancient entities that secretly govern the institution unveil their dark schemes.”

      Tune in now.

‘The Scholars’ is available for pre-order. It will come on Classic 2x LP vinyl with gatefold packaging and a 28-page booklet containing illustrations and lyrics, Deluxe edition with an added bonus CD featuring 19 unreleased demos, jams, and outtakes, and Super Deluxe edition with 2x limited edition colored vinyl discs, each copy individually numbered and stamped with gold foil.
